Jackson Pollock, a mentally sick emotionally unstable alcoholic..
When dripped ink on canvas was called art ..
“On the floor I am more at ease, I feel nearer, more a part of the painting, since this way I can walk around in it, work from the four sides and be literally `in’ the painting.”
Jackson Pollock, 1947.
Pollock’s name is also associated with the introduction of the All-over style of painting which avoids any points of emphasis or identifiable parts within the whole canvas and therefore abandons the traditional idea of composition in terms of relations among parts. The design of his painting had no relation to the shape or size of the canvas – indeed in the finished work the canvas was sometimes docked or trimmed to suit the image. All these characteristics were important for the new American painting which matured in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
Calling the artist here an alchoholic is not meant for belittling him or calling him a fake....I believe that its all his character traits that reflect in his work and i want ppl to see that ,,, i want ppl to realize that this kind of art is very little a concious effort or a planned sketch but a feeling thats inside wanting to be expressed if not in words then on canvas in the shape of a splatter.. may be thats how chaotic his mind is ..

Hey girl, do you study art or art history? I read through this forum and found some really insightful and informative posts by you. I am an art student too but now due to a break in school, art history is all hazy to me.
Reminds me of the old drama: Alif Noon i think it was called… where they decide to get rich by getting into the world of abstract art… asked how it was done, he said “paint ko brush se zameen pei cheetaiN marreiN aur uss ke ooper bahattar ghuntey cylcle chalaiN”
@ the thread… i cannot see how u can call it art! simply because anyone and everyone can produce one of those, but thats just my opinion. I can do a scribble too and say it reflects xyz

yes girl ! :)
I studied Art history from pre historic to present .. while doing my BA in graphic design and multimdia..
what really inspires me is that it is a way of recording history and tells so much abt the past..
ill do more threads on them once i get a few inportant things out of the way :)
I agree and dont agree at the same time.. see it would be a lie if the artist intention was to fool you.. and make money… but if pollock is doing the way he does from a real passion and it makes him content then it is art.. kindo f a vague line.. but there is a difference.. and experienced critics can easily tell if someone is trying to fool you or pouring their heart out to you…
