**ZOBIA **i knw u knw about these things so tell me now
-HB is simple pencil number, but the higher you go the darker it gets. i mean 2B, 4B, 5B, 6B,7B,8B, 8B etc will help u give different shadings, textures, and values. so i will suggest go and buy a set. buying any pencil individually will cost u a lot of money.
i have both the mechanical set and simple wooden set. (i will share u the pic…if i get the time to take the pictures)
in wooden i have two brands and since i bought is from my art school shop so they are recognized brands. so either for STAEDTLER Lumograph (Made in Germany), or CRSTELL Faber-Castell
well i will go for STAEDTLER…otherwise check the pencils on some scrap piece of paper and compare the intensity of every given brand.
for charcoal, you can either go for natural sticks, or for the pencil. they also have these 2B thingee…so ya for the darkest. wasy even 2B will for u.
i have both the pencil and the natural…but i havent used the pencil one yet.
but if you are buying indvidually…then go for 1-2 natural sticks of charcoal and one 8B graphite pencil.
pastel…hmmm go for chalk pastels…and but like 24 pack one or 48 pack one the more colors your have the poor your pocket will get the richer in color your drawing will be
another thing in drawing we use is called Conte…they are less powdery than chalk pastels. buy the pack of 12 with different colors (of brown, black, grey and white)…it helps u get different shades waghera
monochorome…hmm get the black and white and various tones in between one. lol or use someone elses that was i used to do
infact make your own yaar…is it like…from darkest black to get to pure white…so make 12 box and on the first make the black and then darkest grey…greyish white and white. (wasay see the color on photoshop to get an idea )
and that try doing some ink work as well…so buy some indian ink and a water color paint brush and diluute the ink a bit and Wola!!!
dont forget to but grease pencil/china marker it is like you peel the paper of pencil…it is considered good for beginingers.
-dont forget to buy sketching eraser its grey in color…it will erase are your Boobooz
sketch book, news print papper (its very low in quality, but its good for rough work), and 2-3 stonehenge paper for final draft.
Go for the Kit…individual of these will to the kabara of your pocket
yaar aik mushwara…phele din jao or kuch mut loo…sub kuch mang ker use kero.
honestly, see what everyone has brought to the class. and really really see what are the requirements of each assignment.
ok just buy these.
1 2B and 1 8B pencil.
buy 1 8B charcoal pencil
buy 1 grease pencil (it is also called China Marker)
buy black-dark chocolate brown-grey and white (either conte) or buy monochrome pastels (or invest in polychromous pastels )…in fact just buy black conte
-sketch book
monochromes are like black, grey, black grey, white, brown kinda chalks
and polychromous pastels are every color…like red, blue, yellow green, ligth pink, turquise hence every color.
ps. yaar go with sketching kit pencils. btw usually they are all topi drama.
I can help you out with pastels, particularly oil pastels as they are my favorite medium to work with. Oil pastels are less messy compared to chalk pastels and they allow you greater control with coloring. Using your fingers or a blending stick, you can shade/blend the colors to create a three dimensional/more realistic looks to your drawings.
Art supplies can get expensive, but I prefer to buy coloring tools in sets because that way you have access to all colors. I think it's best to buy paintbrushes in sets too because you never know what paintbrush will be best for a particular project.
I personally don't like water color paints because they are harder to control and once you make a mistake, that's it, you can't really fix it. I've been interested in water color pencils though. Have you tried acrylic paints? Those are fun and the nice thing about acrylics is that they allow you make and fix mistakes. For example, if you make a mistake, you can paint over it again and fix it. I've tried oil paints, and they're not bad either. They are a little difficult to move on the paper because they're oily and stiff, but if you combine them with water, they move better. I like to combine oil pastels and oil paints together. Definitely try the oil pastels, they are my favorite and they give rich texture effect to the overall drawing.
KB- hahaha…yaar meray to profs tek mujhay dey detay thay…they just want me to attend the class
i am glad my lill knowledge helped

redvelvet, good to hear you are also one of us show us some of your work
btw oil pastels cant be used for rendering (i.e. applying other materials. where if u are using chalk u can expand your canvas of using and combining different materials).
dont bother going and buying the entire store. what i do is buy one or two items from a certain brand (in my case paint) then test and experiment to see what results i get. If i like it i buy in bulk.
What kind of work do u produce? art is usally an expensive hobby so it helps if your clear about the medium you want to use or the kind of effects you are after. try finding ways of using one or two items in a really interesting creative way. remember the best works do not require the most materials but how effectively you explore them, creatively.
p.s watercolour pencils are a really low quality alternative for the actual paints, dont replace them for the actual thing. use the tube paints they are fun and make really cool blooms.
try finding a combination of pencils u like using which are also different from one another and see how they work togther and work in series making quick sketches. the key word is: experiment!
