Arrogance and Greed

how does it corrupt the conscience?

why and what might make the two go away & restore humility and generosity?

I think if we discuss these two together, i.e. Arrogance and Greed, then the emphasis will be on Greed and Arrogance will be just a supporting thing for the Greedy attitude.

I'm more interested in the Arrogance, and would like comment on it alone. In my view the general arrogance that we see in people, is because people are trying their best to prove that they are not what they are, like identity-wise we are confused group but the problem is that we don't remove our confusions, or we don't repair our surroundings, and general conscience.

What we do as a solution is that we think that we don't belong there, So since we don't belong there, so we have a right to be arrogant to these low self-esteemed bunch of people, the group which have all kinds of problems associated with them.

What do you think about my analysis Dushwari?

The solution i suggest is the more, societal involvement of people. More Art which people can associate to, More interest based communities and things like that.

Re: Arrogance and Greed

words,

very true. i cannot agree more here. the importance of being in a socially strong group and being aware of this help is a good thing so that cross group relations are not tense, nor to their individual members feel isolated or feel that they have membership with weaker group.

interest based communities of like mnded people, such as doctors being a member of a physicians asociation, artists of a particular kind, sharing thier art theories with their colleagues who share the same theory and work around it, only enables them to have a social space where they can work like what they believe in and so is true for all professions.

social groups based on ethnicity, gender and language as well as age-bound grouping also enables people, young or old, married or single, more educated to getting education now, all folks can benefit from each other, only when the purpose of the groups is not be feel exclusive against everyone who is not in their group, and also with in the group do not fall out, due to self righteous thinking or behaviors.

Re: Arrogance and Greed

It doesn't corrupt the conscience. Emotions, needs, desires, feelings, they are all part of it.

Changing priorities will change the emphasis on greed and arrogance. Some people allow their ego's to be stroked far too much.

Also, a belief that you are 100% right in anything (including religion), produces arrogance. For many people, you really can't get rid of it.

Peace words

greedy - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

arrogance - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Greed is the act of wanting more, but arrogance is the act of not admitting that one needs more.

Hope and Trust are the positions of ‘good’ on the same scales as greed, with it on the opposite side of the spectrum, and likewise contentment is the position at the opposite side of the spectrum of which is countered by the position of arrogance.

arrogance is a crime morally speaking and this permeates through religion. Islam for example considers pride an adornment fitting only for Allah (SWT), the cloak of pride being toted by man is seen as condemnable.

greed is a crime too which burns the soul away and can affect those around who become the victims of greed.

Greed fails to acknowledge satisfaction and prevents the person from respect and ultimately praise of God.

In a similar sense arrogance prevents praise of God and respect of others. Though very different things their effects are the same.

To counter greed one needs to identify it’s neutraliser, which is charity

To counter arrogance one needs to identify it’s neutraliser, which is discomfort and humility.

Greed is the pathway towards to arrogance. Because with greed will come possession and with possession will come the sense of self worth. In order to address arrogance one needs to address greed first. Lowering the gaze, fasting i.e. abstinence from food and sleep makes a person lower themselves and be more able to accept authority of others/God.

Sun-Tzu said something to the effect of not giving too much luxury to soldiers lest it make them lazy and arrogant, but I add that do not take too much away from them that they become hungry and thus greedy.

Moderation is the key!

Wanting more food and clothes or love and kindness? And people who don't want to give others anything (food or love) are called kanjoos.

Re: Arrogance and Greed

amazing discussion, folks. makes absolute sense as brother Psyah and hareem01 explicated.
being thankful is a great way to set an example for genuine gratitude and a sense of mindfulness about one's acknowledgement of all the bounties bestowed on onself, by Almighty & through the social interaction and servicing by others.

the key is to be moderate, indeed and not be impulsive in any needs to be met. no need of a person, ought to be so over bearing that it infringes on the rights of the other peoples' need/s.
the fabric of a fair societal establishment, a community or a family can bea good weave only when it is kept less complex and less burdened.

greed and arrogance of spouses, for instance, can KILL the marriage.
greed of children about parents' wealth, can KILL their interactive niceness and sibling hood.
greed of a power blinded leader can KILL the present and the future of whole groups of nations.
thus, greed must be avoided at all costs and at all levels.

arrogance run havoc and brings on chaos of a similar kind. it corrupts the mind and the soul, it blackens the heart & renders any given human being to unethical and inhumane behaviors, which must be avoided as well.
