Arrest fears nipped Modi's UK trip

Arrest fears nipped Modi’s UK trip

Serious concern about the personal safety of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi was just one of the reasons why the Centre advised him to call off his trip to the UK. The Indian High Commission in London had alerted the Centre about a determined bid by British groups to get one of the courts there order Modi’s arrest during his stay in the UK, sources said on Friday. The report from the High Commission, which prompted the Centre to get Modi abandon his travel plans late on Thursday night, spoke about a pledge from a British lawyer, one Imtiaz, to get Modi arrested.

Imtiaz - counsel for Dawood Khan, two of whose kin (both British citizens) were killed in the Gujarat riots - had also tried to get Modi arrested when the CM last visited the UK. On Wednesday, he told a large gathering hosted by a curiously named organisation, Muslim Lights, that he would not let Modi get away this time.

My comment - Why is the so-called “largest democracy in the world” not able to lock this Hitler up?
