Army Considers Musharraf Legal President.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. How could this happen? Anyway, who are we to argue against the greatest institution in Pakistan.

The coalition better be careful before they take things too far. It is time for them to start governing, rather than continuing with nonsensical arguments.

Army Considers Musharraf Legal President.

Pakistan’s armed forces still consider President Pervez Musharraf their supreme commander, as well as the legal and constitutional president of the country, Geo news quoted sources within the Pakistan Army as saying. The channel’s senior anchor and analyst Kamran Khan quoted these sources as saying that the recent rumours of Musharraf’s resignation were completely baseless.

He reported that the United States administration, including its envoy Anne W Patterson, had been very active during the last 24 hours with regards to the political situation in Pakistan.

He said the US wanted the present government to respect the agreements reached between President Musharraf and the PPP before the general elections.

He revealed that the Saudi government had also forwarded messages to the political leadership in the last 24 hours.

Re: Army Considers Musharraf Legal President.

So it is now between CJ-X and army? CJ-X thinks Musharraf is illegal. you know that right?

I have heard about the mentioned rumour. :)

Re: Army Considers Musharraf Legal President.

June 10th is the day for nehattay nedar wukkla, when they take on the army nay the whole world. The earth is already trembling. CJ-X jaloos has already reached Attak pull.

Chalo, kuchh din aur sahi. :)

Is the EX CJ getting the VIP treatment and enjoying not needing to stop at red traffic lights?

The weak of heart do accept Army as the "greatest institution" while rest say army is powerful institution, no wonder more dictators come out of armies then anywhere else :)

Re: Army Considers Musharraf Legal President.

If this keeps up, someones head is about to meet the hanging rope, and it ain't Musharraf.

Re: Army Considers Musharraf Legal President.

Musharraf is as good as dead, the growing reassurances from amreeka arent going to improve his dwindled or non-existent popularity.

Anyway, no one cares for the sympathies army might have for him. What matters the most is that government doesn’t have any, Gilani said “no soft corner for Musharraf”…

No soft corner for Musharraf, says Gilani

By our correspondent

LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has said had any political party the strength in parliament required for impeachment of the president, who could stop it from doing so. He denied that the PPP had a soft corner for President Pervez Musharraf, but added they would not make a promise on impeachment which was not yet doable.

Talking to the media at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, Gilani said they needed votes in parliament for the restoration of complete democracy. He said they would strengthen parliament through legal and constitutional process after getting the desired strength.

To a query on PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif’s statement that if the PML-N needed the PPP’s help for the impeachment of the president, the PPP also needed the PML-N’s help on many issues, the PM said they respected Nawaz Sharif, who was their coalition partner and with whom they had signed the Charter of Democracy and the Murree Declaration.

Gilani was of the view that it was parliament that should be strengthened and allowed to make decisions. If somebody thought that parliament had the strength required to impeach President Musharraf, he said, nobody could stop him.

He said nobody should have any doubt as to the PPP’s struggle for restoring the judiciary, parliament and the Constitution. He said the sacrifices of the Bhutto family for democracy were unmatched in the whole of Asia. **It was Benazir Bhutto’s strategy that made President Musharraf doff the Army uniform. Gilani viewed that the PPP government was also adopting the same strategy to oust the president. **

He said the people had voted them for their manifesto that they would strengthen democracy and abolish the dictatorship. The people had elected them and now it was up to them as to how they fulfilled the demands of the masses, he added.

About the Kalabagh Dam, he questioned as to why no other political government could construct it during the last so many years. He said he was an MPA in 1985 when he read in a newspaper a statement of then NWFP Chief Minister Gen Fazal-e-Haq that the Kalabagh Dam would be constructed over his body.

He said the PPP government had no reservations as to the construction of Kalabagh Dam if all the four provinces evolved a consensus over it. Nevertheless, he said, they would not lie on the issue of Kalabagh Dam. He said the government had started work on the construction of small dams.

About Balochistan, he said the people there had a sense of deprivation. He said he had met with the chief minister, governor, speaker, deputy speaker and members of the civil society in Balochistan. The government was determined to end their sense of deprivation through dialogue. He said PPP Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari would meet with Baloch nationalist leaders to remove their grievances.

Re: Army Considers Musharraf Legal President.

You gotta admit, with so much animosity in the air, lawyer protests, NS rambling on, Zardari and Gilani proclaiming no 'love lost' with Mushy, the dude just carries on like a Duracell bunny. If you think about it, there has to be something bigger than ego at play here.

US must have a very dim view about security of Pak's nuclear assets if Mushy is gone (a very puzzling hypothesis, I admit, considering our nukes are always under the command of military and not politicians), to forcibly keep Mushy at the helm. Kiyani must be in a terrible spot right now.

Oh well....

A day in the life of a Pakistani can surely be miserable but its never boring.

Faisal bhaijan. You bring up a very interesting point. Pakistan Nuclear assets and their security is now on everyone's lip.

But Aalsi where does this all leave former Army Chief Gen. (retd.) Mirza Aslam Beg. His reputation is in tatters after he claimed to a private channel the other day that Mush has decided to resign. He should have verified his facts first. It seems he seriously underestimated Mush's chikkat nature

GoldenAsif bhaijan. Allah (swt) knows best with regards to where it leaves Gen. (retd.) Mirza Aslam Beg.

Yaar, after 60 years, people still haven't realised who holds the power in Pakistani politics. The power base is not likely to change very soon. The sooner people realise this the better. If they want long term changes, then they need to work with powers that be, and try to change the system from within, rather than from outside with laughable rhetoric.

The Feb 18 elections could be the last elections for a very very long time if the government does not start governing soon, and gives up on the drama baazi of non-issues such as the status of Presidency, and whether the EX CJ should be restored or not.

Re: Army Considers Musharraf Legal President.

So according to you the army has always had the power base in Pakistan (through dandey ka zoor), and we all know what a sad state of affairs the country is in, thanks to whoever ran it, so are you blaming the army for the country’s massive problems aalsi? :hehe:

Btw, the people wont let the army breath if they decided to interfere again in their system again. You cant just have that over grown washed out bhudda Musharraf on PTV 24/7 and try to shun or trick people up anymore either.

And yes, restorastion of CJ Iftikhar and kicking out that selfish old puppet Musharraf are real issues, and the elected Govt better act on it, or else.

Indeed. Any ideas when this will happen. :)

Personally, I don't think Aslam Beg has to worry much about his tattered reputation. The guy didn't have much to begin with. Folks like Beg and Hamid Gul are milking whatever 12 minutes of fame they can muster in the media. Having said that, the original article that started this thread is relying on unnamed military sources talking to unnamed Geo guys. Altogether a fishy story. If it unravels in a day or two no one will take responsibility anyway, so there you go. Chomp away as much as you want. Its just heresay, conjecture and a bunch of baloney mixed in. :)

Please ask the resident GS najoomi who likes to make long predictions.
