** Military trial of civilians: Army Act Amendment rejected** Updated at: 2000 PST, Wednesday, December 23, 2009
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence, rejecting a Clause of the Army Act, which allows the court marshal of civilians, asked Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan to submit his legal opinion in writing.
The defence committee met today at the Parliament House with Azar Afzal in the chair. Aitzaz Ahsan was specially invited to the meeting as a legal expert.
Ahsan briefed the participants about the Army Act.
Speaking to media after the meeting, Ahsan said all the participants of meeting had opposed the military trial of civilians. He said this Act should only be applicable on those civilians, who are found involved in acts of terrorism.
The military courts should be set up through high courts, he said, adding that the superior courts should also not bypassed during this whole process.
The fourth pillar of a roof should have the same strength and load on it, else it may affect other three! They gotta think and work together else the roof might fall down again!
(however as an spectator it looks good specially when you are having some pop corns and clapping, but the effects would be ugly when it gets worst ... kindly think before it may get late! although no one is saint here but still we should work together)
well done Aitzaz. this should not apply to civilians - except for those part of Taliban, etc.
Why should military law be used against Taliban? If the problem is that our civil law system is not strict enough, then that system should be overhauled so that is has fewer loopholes.
Taliban are scum like murderers and rapists, and should be dealt with through the same legal process as them.
