Arms Race Logic - is there any?

I don't have a problem with military spending if a country can afford it. But the issue here is that when its 40% of your budget then it's going to be at the expense of the citizens of that nation. It's a road to nowhere, except for the army personnel. What's patriotic about that?

Then why dont both these nations show a action of peace and start de-escalting at the same time, afterall this is not one-sided as many make it out to be!!!

The misconception is this, despite the Indian leaderships occassional claims to wannabe super power status, the bulk of India's Armed Forces and many of it's latest military weaponry is deployed for use against Pakistan (before the 1989 Kashmiri uprising and after). I know, Indians always use the "China" excuse to justify their armed forces build up, but consider this, India has attempted to covertly or overty destablise every neighbour except Burma!

In budgetary terms of funds at Pakistan's disposal, Pakistan does actually spend less on defence then people imagine, something like only 20% of funds available on defence, which is around 190 billion rs out of a total budget of 805 billion rupees. The heaviest expenses (waste?) is incurred by the federal government staff, debt repayment (most incurred becuase of large scale bribery and corruption) and subsidising loss making Public Sector Corporations.

**Pakistan has never try to match indian ambitions for arms. **
jus try this site n then speak up buddy.this is the latest of tirade that musharaf has spelt out.

keep u cool yaar,
dont b foolish that u r not in ambition. if u cannot even dream of becoming a super power it is bcoz u jus know that u dont have ability.
is that right?

The only thing driving the supposed arms race is Kashmir... Solve the Kashmir isssue and you solve a lot of Problems...
Pakistan doesnt need a huge amount of arms to defend itself. The terrain favors defense not offense. But minimum deternace is a vital.
The best option would be to work on the economy, or we will be going the same way as the russians, all teeth but no bite.
