Armed Men Sieze Moscow Theater

Minime: so you have visited New Hampshire...nice motto, don't you think.

If these people think that they will get what they want to by kiling theater goers, they are sadly mistaken. This is their lst ditch effort as Russia has turned up the pressure in Chechnya. What is interesting is that all these terrorists invoke religious scripture as if they are in the dark ages. They should realize that Allah must be on the side of the infidels since Infidels and kaffirs seem to be winning. :)

By the way its a nice place to visit, and to realize why we should live free.

What those people thought best for their country they are doing it, had they had the chances to take the Kremlin they would have done it. So theater or Kremlin that’s not the issue. If school-going girls can be abducted as material witnesses in Chechnya then Kremlin going members and theater goers can also be held responsible.

Some times to have your freedom you do a lot of things (preemptive strikes, dose this rings a bell) which doesn’t seem obvious and even seems as you are losing but you keep on trying. In these times when the fate is not clear you tend to invoke holy scriptures. When wearing a wood over your head, or taking oath on bible and wearing a banner saying "La ilaha il l-allah' all makes sense.

Actually it doesn't make sense. If god was on the side of the fanatics then they would have been winning all along. Seems to me Allah has other favorites.

MiniMe Killing innocents is best for "their" country? Sounds like a line from Bin Laden's book.

Chaltahai, its just you and your true logical argument. Please enjoy till it lasts.

UTD, have you ever read what Moses (AS) did when when he came back from Mount. Sinai, and what he said to Aaron (AS) and his tribe. I think, if you read that you will understand what what people do when it comes to Their safety and freedom.

Well logic it is. Terrorists invoke god's words and claim legitimacy but in the end they keep losing. So God must not be with them afterall. Some religious scholar should explain that to these guys.

CH it's impossible to drill it into these fanatics that their misery is a fruit of their own misguided beliefs and sacriligious practices.. The Supreme Being rewards the true followers with victory in this world and hereafter.. all others are disgraced.

Minime, Johny boy (Ashcroft) believes he is the true descendent of Moses. Bhaijan, taking innocents as hostage has nothing to do with one’s safety and freedom. Tomorrow India invades Pakistan and starts killing everyone indiscriminately in the name of its “safety and freedom”, we know who will be singing songs of justification. You RAW agent!

sir ji :)

IMHO this is a good article, worth reading. The usual drill applies - if you don’t like it, apologies in advance. :flower1:

Interesting and well written article Nadia

Hopefully this doesn’t come to be…

REBELS MAY KILL TONIGHT

The Chechen rebels holding hundreds of hostages in a Moscow theatre have said they will begin shooting their captives tonight.

The terrorists said they will open fire on hostages unless Russian forces started to pull out of the breakaway republic of Chechnya.

Earlier, they gave a deadline of 7pm (UK time) - but so far there have been no reports of gunfire.

Four hostages were released soon after the deadline passed. The three men and one woman were from Azerbaijan.

The suicide squad of up to 50 men and women is heavily armed and have said they are prepared to die.

The theatre is wired with explosives and the rebels have threatened to blow it up if Russian troops try and storm the building.

Good Article, Nadia. It is slightly misleading when it lays the blame on the chechan and the russians in not being able to maintain peace after their last agreement. Most likely they would have been able to do so, had the outsiders allowed them some room. But those were the hey days when the soft underbelly of the russian bear had been discovered, Khattab and Bareyosov (the uncle of the present guy who is leading the hostage takers) were being feted in Peshawar and Kabul, and allowed to raise money (the usual sheiks donated significan amounts). The complaints of the russians to Islamabad were brushed off and ignored. Unfortunately all of that history is lost in this article. Mashkadov, the official leader of the Chechans in hiding from the russians, is trying his best to distance himself from the present Jihadis. Yes both the sociites are weak but they are weak for different reasons, and that is where the problem lies. Woolcott treats the issue as if it is isolated between the russians and the chechans. That is the mentality that could not possibly explain why USA has to send FBI agents to Bali !! It is not a problem between chechans and russians alone. USA would let the russians deal with it on their own at its own peril, and that is why american adivsors are in moscow right now.

The TIME also had an interesting article.

Behind the Moscow Theater Siege

**President Putin told Russians the war in Chechnya was over. But a handful Chechen desperadoes have taken 700 hostages to prove otherwise **

After collasping, Russians started war over Chechnyans. It bankcrupted them even more.

hostages r gonna die...this will be fun...i guess :(

Hope they (the Chechen rebels) thought this out…
