**Armed forces observe Defence Day

KARACHI: Air Officer Commanding PAF Academy Risalpur AVM Mohammad Safdar Khan laid a floral wreath at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah on the Defence Day here Saturday. He also offered fateha and reviewed the guard of honour of smartly turned out male and female cadets of PAF Academy Risalpur who assumed duties at the mazar.
Meanwhile, senior officers of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force laid floral wreaths at the mazar-e-Quaid to mark Defence Day.
The day long commemorations began with the special prayers and Quran khwani at all mosques of armed forces in the city for preservation of integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan.
At PN Dockyard, a senior officer of Pakistan Navy laid floral wreath at the memorial of Shuhada-e-Pakistan and offered fateha to observe Defence Day.
A message of Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir was read out on the occasion, paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Pakistan Navy.
In his message Naval Chief said that their supreme sacrifices shall always be remembered in the history of valour and fearlessness.
“The valiant feats of our soldiers in 1965 will continue to guide the future generation”, he added.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were also held at all PN ships and establishments and Naval Chief’s order of the day was read out.
