Government has prepared comprehensive plan to equip armed forces: Musharraf

President General Perverz Musharraf Wednesday said that a 15-year comprehensive plan has been finalized to equip the armed forces with state-of-the-art weapon systems to enable them to meet any external challenge. He was addressing the troops at Jhelum Garrison to mark the conclusion of 34th annual PARA Central Meet which got together top notch marksmen drawn from the three armed forces, rangers, and the Police. Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ahsan Saleem Hayat and other officials of armed forces attended the functions held at the ground of Pakistan Army rifle Association in the Jhelum Garrison.

The President while speaking on the occasion said, “Strong armed forces is the guarantee to the security and solidarity of the country.”

He said the imbalance and deficiencies are being removed and new weapon systems for the Army including long range guns, Orlikon air defence system, night fighting and electronic capability warfare are being inducted to bolster the professional defence capability. Similarly, he said, Pakistan Nay is also being equipped with modern submarines, eight P-3 C aircraft and four surface ships are being inducted to enhance the its operational capabilities.

The President said Pakistan Air Force is being provided with state-of- the-art fighter planes, including JF-17 Thunder. He said two such aircraft have already arrived in Pakistan while the serial production would start next year.

He said F-16 block-52, fighter planes which are the advance version of the series, would soon be inducted in the air force. He said Pakistan is also planning to acquire highly sophisticated and advanced fighter plane F-10, Airborne Warning Aircraft System (AWACS), Beyond Visual Range Air to Air Missiles (BVR) and air to air refueling system which would give fighting punch to the Air Force.

The President said Babar Cruise Missiles are being tested to enhance their range from 500 to 1000 km and would soon be inducted in the armed forces. He said the short, medium and long range ballistic missiles systems have already been inducted in Pakistan Army and now it is being tested by them.
