ARMAAN (1966-67)

ARMAAN (1966-67)

When Waheed Murad decided to produce ARMAAN he also decided that he will ensure that this movie creates something unusual–and indeed it did by becoming he first ever Platinum Jubilee film of Pakistan—having run jam packed at Naz Cinema-Karachi for 75 consecutive weeks.

So infectious was this movie–that it still carries a certain appeal to he generation of today alongside the veterans.

ARMAAN became an icon of Pak-Film Industry…creating a pair which never clicked with anyone–later in other movies–as did they in the said movie*;ZEBA & WAHEED MURAD*…!!!

Starring; Waheed Murad, Zeba, Rozina, Nirala, Agha Sarwar, Bibbo, Saiqa, Zahoor Ahmed (Niaz of Khuda Ki Basti) Tarranum and Tahir at Karachi’s famous Eastern Film Studios (of DAWN’s Hameed Haroon’s Dad Saeed A. Haroon) and Murree. Waheed drove al the way to Murree from Karachi in his, that time latest DATSUN BLUEBIRD…where some memorable songs–still making waves, were picturized; AKELE NA JANA..HUMEIN CHHORR KAR TUMM,TUMHARE BINA HUM BHALLA KIYA JEEAINGAY and ZINDAGI APNI THEEH ABB TUKK URRTAY BADAL KI TARAH and BETAB HO UDDHAR TUM, BEYCHAIN HEIN IDDHAR HUM (wich was done at CECIL HOTEL Murree—cheated as the home of Bibbo, Rozina and Tarranum) and of course—the song which is still heard during mehendis and functions “KO KO KORINA” was shot at he Eastern Film Studios on Waheed, Nirala, Agha Sarwar and a few extras…besides a sad song "Jubb Pyar Mei

ARMAAN was a very powerful story–a family drama focusing on an orphan girl (Zeba) and a rich man’s son (Waheed) with a great mixture of slapstick comedy well combined with serious situations.

That famous house of Waheed Murad off Tariq Road-PECHS Karachi still stands tall but fairly under shadows of buildings and new houses–where Waheed did most of the Karachi outdoor shooting of ARMAAN…and I am a witness to that including the KO KO KORINA" song shooting at the Eastern Studios at Karachi when I accompanied Sohail Rana–a close family friend.

ARMAAN lives in the hearts & minds of many—including some newies of today…

It was directed by Pervez Malik and produced under the banner of FILM-ARTS of Waheed Dad…Nisar Murad.

Re: ARMAAN (1966-67)

The only Pakistani movie I have (on VHS) is Armaan. A classic. It is so sad that Pakistan film industry could not produce another hero like Waheed Murad in last so many years. Amazing personality, incredible charm and great acting. He was the king of Pakistani film industry

Cecil hotel was shut down, last I saw of it. That was in late 89-90. I dont know what is going on of it, now

Re: ARMAAN (1966-67)

TARIQ......"CECIL" hotel stands revived by some private party..at the very building facing Rawalpindi Point.....with the same grandeur.

To take you back to early 1890....CECIL HOTEL was actually the summer lodge of Lord Cecil..one of the chamchaas of the Goras who ruled British India. The Mansion was finally taken over by 1940 for Resident Bahadur by Indian Govt of British era's last stages.

Of the CECIL connections....the other mansions were BRITELANDS and LOCKWOOD...now hotels since 1945...while the Church made at Nathiagali...which still stands...was also for some Britishers and Lord Cecil................

That's History.............
CECIL taken over by PTDC and then back to some private party....That's Mystery!!!!!!!!!!
