I’ve heard a lot of non-muslim claim that muslims who came to india or for that matter, anywhere else, basically forced the local population to convert to islam or face some sort of dire consequences..
this is one of the favourite arguments of our non-muslims friends here on gupshup.
If we look at it logically…muslims came to india when islam was expanding. it was a powerful force at that time and continued to be for a long time afterwards. we’re talking centuries here. now, if people were to convert to islam on their own, this would be the perfect time. the muslim empire was expanding day by day. knowledge was an important part of islam as opposed to other religions and nations that were going backward rather than forward. all the big centers of learning at that time were in the muslim empire.. basiclly, everything was going for islam.
if there were elements that forcibly converted ppl to islam, they’re were very few and could be looked at as rouge elements..a lot of ppl converted to islam cuz they saw that it was the true religion..
anyways.. fast forward to now… islam is at its lowest point right now. most of the muslim countries are poor and have all sorts of trouble. islam, in general is thought of as a terrorist religion and is looked at as a backward religion that doesn’t give rights to women.. etc..but which religion is the fastest growing in the world? i’m talking about conversions here.. not birth rate.. its islam. now no one is in the position to force non-muslim to convert, but thousands are converting. how do you explain this?
if we can see for ourselves what is happeneing now.. it shouldn’t be hard to imagine that non-muslims who converted under muslim rule did it on their own.. and not because they were forced too..
