To rebuild the image of Pakistan and Pakistanies we all overseas Pakistanies have to pitch in. What can be done ?
If you are doctor hold a free one day clinic for the poor and needy.
If you are a computer engineer. Offer your free services to fix the computers of your neighbors for free.
Invite your non Pakistani neighbor to your home to share Pakistani dishes. Pakistani foods are more popular then you think because of their exotic aroma, flavor and color.
Volunteer with Habitat for humanity, doctors beyond borders.
Open a Pakistani soup kitchen for poor , needy and homeless without judging any of these.
If you are a cab driver once a week help out poor and needy go get their groceries in your cab for free.
I am sure all of you can take out few hours a week or month to participate in these and similar philanthropic works. Please make sure that everybody knows you ethnicity while you are doing all this to rebuild/build image Pakistanies and Pakistan. It is easier than you think.
Those are some darn good ideas. However, these activities should be done without any ulterior motive, other than to simply help people. That's how the truly good operate.

I am willing to ignore even the ulterior motives like gaining popularity in the neighbours for the big cause of ultimately building a good reputation for our beloved country and Pakistanies.

Excellent ideas. Our people need to pull together. Unfortunately, Pakistanis abroad have some big stick up their behind about associating with other Pakistanis to get these things done. When it comes to issues like Hijaab, they get all up and strong, and then when these sort of issues come along, everyone becomes absoluely silent. Try posting this up and religion and see what reaction you get.
I do quite a bit of volunteer work in the community and people know I'm Pakistani. But they tell me to my face that they think I'm some exception to the rule on how Pakistanis typically are. Now that's shameful.

This is same with every Pakistani who is involved in the community activities. People will tell you that you are different than others Pakistanies. Think about it if we all Pakistanies here do all this then those people will have nothing bad to compare with.

I am neither. However, I am in the media field and part of that has to do with my plan to raise awareness through documentaries in mainstream western society through Hollywood (because people listen to hollywood) in the coming few years.
The western news outlets, out of ignorance have done enough damage as it is. While hindu movie industry does its part as well. I think I am doing a noble and greatest of all jobs in favor of Pakistan.
We will see better days and outshine the light. but once we were here, we will wonder.
Recently, I had recommended a book “Three cups of Tea” to one of my Professors. It is a story of an American trekker who has been building girl schools in the NWFP region for almost 10 years now. The book talks about the difficulties he faced and the treatment he got from Pakistani people and the lessons he learned from them. That book has completely changed her views about Pakistan and Pakistani people. She plans on inviting the author on the campus to speak with the students, faculty, and staff. She is also going to include that book in one of the service learning class curriculum.
The other day I was talking to her and she said she was watching some documentary on BBC about Pakistan. In that documentary, the person said girl schools in Pakistan were built after 9/11. She was telling me that she literally jumped off the sofa and said to her husband this is not true, that guy has been making girls schools for almost 10 yrs. But that didn’t satisfy her; she got on the BBC website and e-mailed them on the inaccuracy of some of the key facts in that documentary. Of course, she never got a reply but what matters is that she is not going to fall for the propaganda by the western media.
I guess little things like recommending a good book can also make difference.
well girls school in teh NWFP region have been around since before this guy was building schools. and girls schools in Pakistan have been around forever, so it appears she still needs to be educated a bit
maybe BBC was talking about some particular area/district which had no girls school until then, there were and still are such areas.
Yeah I told her that they have been around for a long time. But we have to accept the fact that the western media is very bias towards that part of the country. The only thing they talk about that part of the country is madrassas and try to portray it as a terrorist hub.
I have met the guy Greg Mortenson author of Three Cups of Tea, at one of HDF program where he was invited as the chief guest. It was amazing to hear his story how he was touched by the hospitality of the region and saw girls writing on the dirt with sticks. He has since then made this his mission to open schools in places like that in Pakistan. He is one dedicated guy to learn so much from.
