Are you the source for my happiness?

How does it work? I dont think I understand. This topic deals with relationships and a religious aspect.

Someone is not feeling well. You go to the person. You start making jokes. All of a sudden they feel better.

Someone is not feeling well. You go to the person. You start making jokes. They stay in the mood they are in.

Now, in Islam we believe that Allah is the source of all goodness. So who makes whom happy? Does Allah make me happy? Who do I thank for my happiness? You, the person who made me laugh (if infact I did laugh), or Allah? Or did I make myself laugh, because I accepted the joke was funny? What about the one who didnt choose to laugh? Or both? Who is the source? Who do we thank in the end? Do we thank ourselves, our friend, or our Allah for making us “happy”?

If when I am around you, I feel happy, do I thank you (whether verbally or non) for how I feel?

Are people given these abilities? Or do they naturally have them? Am I confusing you? grin

Yes, I am bored. grin

very confusing :mudhosh:

Munni once again u are ranting abt something very trivial.I mean u laugh and u cry too.Wht if a particular person makes u cry so does tht mean god is punishing u in some sort of way?
No,the person is responsible, god gave him a brain and abilities and he chose them to make u cry.The case is similar with the laughing bit,the person chose to use his abilities to make u laugh. The power of choice.

I didnt know I was ranting. grin

So the person is the source of happiness? Then why thank Allah if other people are responsible for the good and bad in my life? So if I am miserable, does that mean I can blame someone else for it? Does this mean I cant be happy by myself if someone else is responsible for my happiness?

Other people are not responsible for your good or bad, you are responsible for your good or bad. They are just a source, if you think that source will have negative effects on you, you would simply ignore it and look for something better.

Not really, I guess it more depends on what phase have you gone through.

Take this example... Do you know about the guy who killed 100 students in lahore. He had drowned them acid. Then later he went to the newspaper agency and told them what he did. When he was asked why he did that, he said when he was a young boy, police had arrested him on some murder charge, they punished him and tortured him for something he had never done. After 20 years of mal treatment and torture, he himself became a criminal. Who is responsible for this behaviour of him, ofcourse its over society, our system. etc who made him a crminal. I think he is less to be blamed.

Now take example of this XYZ person who is living in peaceful enviourment and suddenly everyone finds out that he has killed some one or robbed the house. Who is responsible for him? He himself is responsible of such an act then anyone else.

Allah has blessed us brains to think, he told us what is right and what is wrong. I would say in all normal circumstances, its we people who are responsible for our acts and behaviours.

**I hope I am on the track in answering your questions ;)****

So you are saying then that I am responsible for my own happiness? That I shouldnt blame it on others if I am unhappy? That I shouldnt go to a friend if I want to smile? That I shouldnt thank Allah if I am happy because I am the source of it? Just would like an expansion of ur explanation, so as to fully understand what ur saying.

Please elaborate. Here I am not talking responsibility per se, I am talking about happiness, and where its derived from. Its main source?

In the US Declaration of Independence it mentions "the pursuit of happiness". If happiness is to be pursued, why would anyone say that they themselves are a source of it?

sigh

Munni we can think we are responsible for our own happiness…

but its difficult…

without someone there with you cares for you and tries to make you feel better when you are down, its really tough…

man is not an island…i’ve seen that only others can bring me back when i’m down…and only those whom i care for and know they care abt me…not just anybody…

hope i’m making some sense :mudhosh:

munni,, every good comes from Allah, if people visit the sick and he feels better than it is a good which has come from Allah.
so i think we just thank allah.. sayin 'alhumdulilah-praise be to allah'
and thankin the person jazakallah(may allah reward you)..
It is His command that you say a joke, visit the sick,, and fullfil ur duty as a muslim..

5 duties that a muslim has on anohter muslim,,,
-visiting the sick
-attending another muslims funeral
-saying salam n answering back
-someone sneezes u say .....(forgot)
-accepting an invitation.

I didn't know that.

I'm not certain about the answer to your question Munni, just to let you know I thank both, God and people. like if someone makes me feel happy, I tell them so and at the end of the day I thank God for eveything He has given to me, although I don't do it regularly.

I'm finding its not so clear cut. smile

^ well, what I believe is that opportunities are provided to you either by God or it’s your luck (I’m really not sure about this part), but how you avail them is up to you. so, it’s a sort of combination.

I agree that happiness is combination of things. I believe that our friends are one of God's blessings and that it is through God that they can help lift our spirits. However, it is up to us to be open enough to accept this gift. (And a few stupid jokes from a friend never hurt anyone;) )
