UNDERWEIGHT: Maybe you need to eat a bit more. But go for well-balanced nutritious foods and don’t just fill up on fatty and sugary foods. if you are very underweight, see your doctor about it.
OK: Your weight is in the desirable range for health but at the lower end. Make sure you maintain your weight, and don’t be tempted to aim for the underweight range.
OK: Your weight is in the desirable range for health. You’re eating the right quantity of food but you need to be sure that you’re getting ahealthy balance in your diet.

I am definately NOT but does it worry me? Nopse. Because there are alot of other factors involved which decides the right weight range for you. It depends on your body frame, structure and fat n mass proportion in you. So its not as simple as having a standard weight for everyone with same height.
If we visit any hospital they hav simple equipments to check height n weight. i knw there are many others equipments which tell u everything i.e. weight, blood pressure, fat, heart-beats, body temprature etc etc.
But this is the standard chart and its result differ from others depend on weight n height :)
ot just weight and height, but what is that weight made up of.
going just by weight and BMI numbers u will have many athletes who would be considered overweight, or underweight.
the chart assumes certain body fat percentage as part of weight, and that may not apply.
but otherwise a good tool for majority of people

Yes, you are absolutely correct. That is why waist circumference is a very important measure to go along with BMI. I have posted it many times before in this sections of the forum and again the recommendation is less than 80cm for women and less than 90cm for men. This is because abdominal fat is the most dangerous and more common for men to deposit fat in the abdominal area.
agree! but i got this very simple chart with six options indicating about our condition by simply cross checking height n weight. atleast we can know in what position we are my current weight is 78k and still thinking i’m overweight and should do some excerice to lose the weight.

Yes not as simple as just calculating BMI but it should NOT be totally disregarded as it is a good starting point. If your BMI and waist circumference are both above recommended levels I would be a little worried (that is for average population and not athletes). I would suggest you also get your body composition checked (using a BIA machine or the electrode method) to determine percent body fat and muscle.
haan bhai..bola toh ed mein that for majority of ppl its a good tool, sirf agree karany kay loye post likhi hay. ankhain martay huay sharam naheen aati, mein aik ba-haya mashriqi shaqs hoon
and um maybe this is my own experience as a fatass-by-birth talking, but do people REALLY need a chart to tell them if they’re at a healthy weight? :khums:
Yea Sara, people under/over estimate wt all the time. The point of BMI is more to determine if someone is dangerously under or over wt and not necessarily the correct wt.
