Every day I check out the latest news in the world of Cricket, and every day there is news about a player or coach retiring.
This sport has become a JOKE. WHY cant they wait till the end of the World CUP!!! Let the matches be played and then announce what ever you want.

I dont understand why players are just “allowed” to retire in this sport, when they like, and in most cases, EMOTIONALLY. It’s pathetic.
This is pretty normal. Many ageing players choose world stage events to announce their retirements and this trend is not limited to cricket only. It is better to announce before playing your last match and trust me it takes guts to do that. You don't want to retire like ex Pakistani cricketers who would be shunned by the selectors without knowing they have already played their last match.
^^ Exactly! It's better to leave the stage on your own (unlike some Pakistani and Indian cricketers) then being kicked out of the team after losing the respect your nation and fans had for you.
I think targeting world cup as your swansong in ODIs is fine but I don't necessarily agree that one should retire from test cricket at the same time. One (that includes the players involved their respective boards and fans/supporters) should not get so emotional about a disappointing WC performance. Tests and ODIs are completely different games requiring different skills, temperament etc.
I do not agree with Lara's decision to quit test cricket esp. as he looked in great nick during the recent test series in Pakistan, hitting two hundreds.

What difference would it makes if they retire after the cup ? More then the sport I think your post is a joke. McGrath announced long time ago that he would retire after the cup. What impact would anyone's retirement have on the games that are going to be played after the announcment is beyond me. And what do you mean by why players are "allowed" to retire. It's their choice, if they dont want to play anymore no one has the right to stop them. Emotional or not at the end of the day the indivisual has to decide for himself if he wants to continue playing or not.

Form is not always the reason people retire. To play at the top level takes a lot out of people. Lara might have retired cause he's had enough of international cricket and I dont blame him one bit for that. He's been a run machine like no other in world cricket but his team mates have let him down throughout his career. I think he's had enough of it now and it's time to move on and let others take responsbility.
