Are there certain food brands you will not compromise on?
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
unfortunately or fortunately, yes!..i can never convince myself to buy no-name or lesser known brands of food/food products…tbh, they are far inferior in quality, taste and looks. they seem to have more attractive packaging in comparison to the brand names though…probably, that’s how they sell along with lower price.
For some yes. For others no. I won’t compromise on coffee brands or breakfast cereals. Anything else in not too fussed
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
Yes, very picky, do not compromise ever.
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
hardly eat anything that has a marketing “brand” on it.
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
I wonder if it’s partially due to habit. Maybe that. Maybe cuz you’re truly satisfied with the brand. Can’t recall food brands that I’m very particular about.
The thread topic led me to think of an interesting question. How many would feel comfortable buying food from the dollar store? I’m not talking about soda or candy (which I’ve bought before) nor cookies and crackers…but canned items, etc. Would you feel comfortable eating a meal prepared from dollar store foods? Or would there be a mental block about it?
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
nope…i never ever buy anything from Dollar Stores other than electrical wires, cable TV accessories and brand name chocolates.
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
^So, it’s mental block then?
I’ve bought teacher supplies, soda, candy from there.
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
no, it’s not that…they don’t carry products and it’s quite understandable…what $1 can buy? not much!..
…i agree with you and i forgot to mention that stationary is OK to buy from there…it isn’t that low of a quality…
…food, definitely no…a big fat no! ![]()
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
They do carry food products, not as wide a variety of course as a supermarket, but they do have a selection and you can find some common brands too. Of course you cannot buy several products for just $1.
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
Cheese, soda, no, only because it’s the taste…it doesn’t even have to be the more expensive brand, if you liek the taste of generic, then that’s fine too…
I will buy generic OTC, frozen or canned fruits/veggies etc.
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
I don’t compromise on milk and cheese.
Those two things…I am very picky about.
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
If the dollar store stacks up on favourably branded items it shouldnt make a difference. The mental block isnt the dollar store itself, its the perception that the dollar store stacks up on lower quality stuff
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
Brand conscious about snacks like granola or nuts. Great Value is a major no.
Everything else is usually organic doesn’t matter which brand.
I agree. Many of the times, items land in dollar stores, not because of inferior quality, but because of order cancellation of manufacture with another major store, wrong print quality on packaging or labels (font size difference, color/shade difference), over stocking at manufactures warehouse, brand upgrading (if P&G is changing Tide’s formula, then on the releae date, all the old formula inventory will go to places like dollar stores), and such.
If dollar store is carrying nestle coffee, you can be sure that it’s real nestle coffee. It would be a copy right violation, and F&D administration violation otherwise, resulting in huge fines and a major jail time for the owner of the store
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
Same..
I do with certain products but not others..
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
Yes for some brands like Milk, yogurt, cream, cheese. Also for spices I stick to Shan masalas only Somehow I dont like chili and coriander powder of other brands up to mark (in Pakistan though I liked National more). Even juices I only go for selective brands. When we were in KSA even that time we were choosy about juices we used to buy only Safa, Lacnor mixed fruit and Rabi juices whereas Masafi from UAE is a very yummy brand that i even used to buy in Pakistan. And yes ketchup even we were and I am very picky about. So overall may be 60-70% picky and 30-40% not. Sugar, flour, frozen veggies are some of those which im not very choosy. If i buy canned veggies for some purpose even for them I rely on a certain brand:halo:
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
I don’t mind purchasing generic items, flour, sugar, some canned products as mentioned in above posts.
I can’t quite compromise on buying a generic version of ketchup, it HAS to be Heinz.
Re: Are you picky about food brands?
I am 90% not picky. In fact my son will eat only the Aldi or Great Value ( generic store brand) Peanut butter. The only thing I am picky about is soda and bread. And that too because I eat the low calorie version of 100% whole wheat bread. If I find something generic for that I would buy it. Don’t think I would buy the canned food from a dollar store but I do buy canned food from Aldi. Except for one cereal ( Trix), we get store brand cereals from Aldi too.
And yes, off topic but I buy generic brand OTC medicines too.
