You mean in modern times of today or till few hundred years ago?
I think as far as skill of an individual warrior is concerned it was more important and groomed when wars were fought with hand held weapons; swords, shields, lances, spears, bow & arrow etc. In those times each warrior had to train in all weapons but had to master one weapon beside the ever important sword.
Many were therefore specialist lancers, spear men, archers, etc and for mastering these weapons a particular set of skills, inborn or developed through excessive training was always required.
It can also be said that just in order to *be *a soldier one has to have a certain set of basic skills only to be regarded a worthwhile soldier. Other skills may come later.
The basic skills for being a soldier in any era can roughly be counted as;
toughness, adaptability to changing situations, fitness, energy, perseverance, ability to handle trying circumstances, oppositions, challenges, threats and so on.
In modern times the army’s and even the individual soldoer’s dependability on indiviudual skill has reduced considerably. When physical contact and eye-ball to eye-ball battles are almost non-existant the collective skill matters more. In that way regiments and corps classified according to use of weapons and role in war come in. For example an infantry man will have skill in some hand to hand combat, firing small automatic, semi-automatic guns, grenades, explosives and so on. Behind them the armoured soldiers in the tanks and armoured vehicles with longer range and larger guns have diffrent skills. The artillery gunners need a different set of skills.

As such if I were a warrior say 200 years ago I would have liked to master the sword to its best. The level of reflexes and stamina required is very inspiring. We can only imagine how physicall and mentally strong the warriors who fought with swords were.

When I was little I was sensitive too. I was in Pakistan. I use to read news paper.
All those news about rape/naked-parades use to give me headache(literally).
I didn't know that I was going to live in canada.
In pakistan I always knew I had to learn to be a sniper to kill those ppl involve in such nasty crimes, with out getting my self into trouble.
I trained my own sister to shoot and use had guns.
I was just very scared for security of my family.

Its very easy to get hold of firearms in pakistan. Plus my family had their own.
In canada I took a 2 days course. But it was only about how to handle/carry and keep firearms safely.
Canada is very strict about firearms. They won't let any un-trained person have it.

everyone, your opinions & wishes are all yours to fulfill. but, the query was about what skillls you would posses if you were to become a warrior.
i would say honesty and commitment towards the cause and also a great sense of personal realization that i must not hurt any life form, without a due reason.
finally, my weaponry would not be metal, but education & kindness.
I wanted to join Infantry, either Punjab or Baloch Regiment would have been my favourite, out of love rather prejudice (my late father was a Punjabi Rajput and my mother is a Lashari Baloch). Somehow a fine twist of fate made me join Army Medical College in 1985. And now I am Doctor who has served various Military Hospital and PAF Setups.
But apart from it Allah Almighty gave me many opportunities to serve with the Best Infantry of the World. I have served with 16 Punjab Regt on IS duties to Faisalabad in 1991, 10 AK Regt in Azad Kashmir from 1992-93, 21 FF Regt on WAPDA duties in 1999, 23 Baloch Regt and 48 FF Regt on Monitoring duties in Bannu and North Waziristan Agency in 1999-2000, 6 Baloch Regt in Kurram Agency (Arwaza and later Koh-e-Safed on Pak Afghan Border) in 2001, 71 Punjab Regt on Indian Border in Jalalpur Jattan Sector in 2002, 49 FF Regt in North Waziristan Agency (Miranshah, Dattakhel, Saidagi, Dabbar-miami etc) in 2002-03, again 23 Baloch Regt and 71 Punjab Regt in South Waziristan Agency (Wana, Kanni Gurram, Zam-chand etc) in 2003.
It feels so good to attend to the sick while at the same time, getting a taste of Infantry life. It is really amazing.

^A very different and philosophical aspect to the whole affair Dushwari, but definitely a worthwhile point.
You'd rather be a peaceful warrior.
It's true honesty of purpose and commitment to cause are very crucial for a warrior and his/her role in any battle and its eventual outcome.
In Pakistan it’s no problem, everything’s available. It’s the proper training facilities that are totally absent in our gun-happy nation.

The skill of a medical officer or medic as they’re called are ever important among any unit of soldiers. A combination of two great professions; medicine and soldiering, is surely an enviable career. You should be proud indeed! :k:

I don't like WARS, Would like the job of War Analyst working on the real reasons of WAR in general or a specific WAR.

Yup, most military commanders in modern militaries are warriors qualified as war analysts as well as they're required to acquire degrees/courses in strategic studies, war studies, military history and so on to be eligible for higher command posts.
words, your thought is interesting. I've been wondering a lot lately, what jobs can a civilian educated and qualified in Defence & Strategic Studies or War Studies or Military History could get?

War is an interesting thing to analyze, questions like what causes WAR? Why human history is full of so many WARS? Is there some kind emotional need that we can't get other then indulging in WARS with others or its because politicians had found it as a good tool, for different purposes. Alot of interesting stuff to analyze in general and in specific as well.
