any cold cut meats should be heated thoroughly before consuming during pregnancy, its better to play safe. However if she feels fine and just had it once, it should be ok. Like Saadia said, undercooked food has the danger of getting food poisoning, hence they should be avoided.
Question to the poster who said peanuts should be avoided, did the doctor tell you this? I thought nuts are a good source of omega 3's...plus peanut butter is an excellent source of protein?
Deli meats like salami are best avoided because they carry a higher risk of listeria and other dangerous bacteria (same goes for other unpasteurized products as noted above---soft cheeses, anything containing raw egg like cookie or cake batter or mayonnaise, etc.) The chances of something actually happening are pretty low but as expectant mothers I know most of us would choose to err on the side of caution.
Another note about salami----some types of salami have been treated with nitrates as a preservative. Nitrates are also used in smoked meats, bacon, and most hot dogs, kosher/beef or pork varieties. Nitrates are proven carcinogens and it's best to avoid these just for the sake of not exposing the fetus to them. So that's another reason I would have to refrain from any more salami during pregnancy...

Eggs are bad ?? I've heard about raw eggs in the form of dressing/mayo should be avoided but I thought eggs were good for protein and such ?
She went to ask her pharmacist and he said that its not advisable to eat it all the time and should avoid with cold cut meats! Otherwise, just this once is ok...it shouldnt harm the baby...
As long as you are buying your meats from a reliable store you should be fine. The fear comes from meat that has been left out or hasn't been cooked through. Also, get a list from your doctor next time. My doc had given me a printed list of foods to avoid. I don't have it anymore but it mostly contained products I didn't like anyway.
I don't think so. I guess yo uare concerned because mayo contains raw eggs, but these are pasteurized eggs and I think they go through so much processing that it should be free of any bacteria. If you think about it, if you cannot eat mayo, then you can't have potato salad or any sandwich from any foodchain. So logically, I don't see a reason for not eating bottled mayo.
regular tuna every now and then is fine avoid albacore tho
and with deli meats if you must really have em make sur you heat them till they are steaming then its ok.
