Men don't only use lies to rope in a girl, they also lie thru excuses when they want to dump her. But maybe a liar is better than the kind of guy who ignores your messages and disappears. The liar puts in more effort than a coward/buzdil.

Being diplomatic is not the same as being a liar. I think what you want to improve on is your ability to deal with sensitive situations in which you can't risk being blunt because that may be perceived as disrespect by a colleague or anyone else for that matter. Being tactful is a skill, and skills can definitely be developed and improved with experience.
But sometimes, you just have to be blunt instead of beating around the bush e.g. you mentioned someone trying to extract information from you that you're required to withhold... in that case, I'd just say sorry, can't tell. Baat khatam.
