Re: Are women more future-oriented? Why?
Simple answer, women are naturally given this 'mamta'.. (what's the english word?)

Their frontal lobe has more cells, but future planning takes in account everything. And hence the conclusion which you referred to is flawed.
If men can do better mathematics and reasoning, then why would they be any less in future planning. They have less emotions and fear so here women may do better job in planning the future problems.
Everything what is said is still invalid since it takes upbringing of an individual which will overcome so called differences in brains. With training, brain connections do grow or wake up if dormant.
Thanks for pointing out small number of brains this so called research was based on.[/QUOTE]
LOL. Diwanay, I didn't conjure up any "conclusions." Nor have i used that word in my previous posts. I only came up with a hypothesis.
And I've already made the point that there are OTHER factors such as society/culture/individual differences to consider. Both genders contribute in their own way in planning for the future. I'm neither joking nor declaring that one is better than the other.

motherhood? maternal instincts?
lol yes!!! thanks :k:
Re: Are women more future-oriented? Why?
I agree with cricket, insofar as I believe it is evolutionary.
So far as Diwana is concerned. I pity him.
But as an aside, I would like to question this idea that talking too much is a bad thing. That is a highly gender bias quality assesment. It could equally be argued that we talk more becuse our brains have a lot more interesting things to put into the world.
Also. Men are not "generally" more rational. Thos fields have generally been male dominated because women have not been encouraged to go into them. My physics teachers have alwys told me to drop it, for example, because they - as men were inadequate and did not realise that women are capable. But at least 2/3 of them are unemploye or rearing sheep in new zealand now. And I have out-qualified them.
So take that, put it in your pot of logic and rationality - and don't forget to stir.

Read my words, I did not say you concluded, I said the conclusion you referred to is flawed.
Read my post again. I implied it is a good thing to talk more or have strong speech center in women brain.

The quoted information just discusses the "findings" of the study.....and does not interpret these findings as an etched-in-stone conclusion (at leat that's how I see it). IMO when the word "perhaps" is used in a study....it's more of an attempt to hypothesize or understand rather than to conclude.
Yes, future planning would include a consider of "everything" or many aspects....which is why I was connecting holistic thinking to this point.
Re: Are women more future-oriented? Why?
^ Yes.
Re: Are women more future-oriented? Why?
I am a woman and I only wish I could 'plan'. Infact, in my experience, men are planners, making most of the decisions..even for others.
Useless to do so if you're stupid. If you're smart, you wouldn't ask this question.
WOH! You just insulted me there. You mind keeping your arrogance to yourself? Or maybe substituting that with reasons to support your opinion? If you have no reasons, there is no need for your baseless opinion in this thread.
Thanks for clarifying.
I know the articles and know how they do it. (mostly nuclear brain scan and blood flow study or anatomic/physical differences )
The results could be variable and some results were actually refuted by other researches.
To make the long story short:
These differences cannot prove women are either smarter :D or they have better abilities for future planning.
Some ways women are better and other ways men are. This is the take home message. For future planning, both are needed.
BUT! Women brain is smaller...and women talk more.....:D
diwana, you might want to cite that as well, just like redvelvet is. Otherwise, it is just BS. You can also very clearly mention that it is experiences you are talking about.

Agreed that women have been discouraged to be in male-dominated fields for longer than eternity.
And I am surprised that your Physics teacher ACTUALLY told you to drop it (assuming it wasn't just an advice based on your circumstances and was actually gender-biased).

Please read all my posts. Specially my bolded sentences. If you still have question or request, then I will be glad to answer. :)
