Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

:cb: advice advice hoti hai.

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

OK let me narrow down my question as you guys are shooting all over the place.

Go to Life1, Parenting and other forums. You think that people who are giving advices there would be following the same advice in their real life? If not then is it ok?

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

telling someone that what is right and what is wrong and then let them decide is different from giving advise. I give advise only if I am following the path else I just put up right & wrong.

PS: said D6C while eating fries with cream cheese and writing little essay for kid on healthy eating.

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

Conversely questioning, are our advices reasonable, based on truth and beneficial? If yes, then giving such advice to someone is a noble deed because you want to help the person. Not following your own advice is harmful for you but it does not mean that you should not fulfil the right of other people of getting good advice :)

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

^ If you dont think that its good enough for you to follow, how can you qualify that its good enough to be given?

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

If i dont follow it but it is good for the person whom i am advising.....then its ok...

If i am a smoker and some one asks me weather he should start smoking or not then i will say no please dont start...

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

Sometimes people know that it is good enough for them to follow but circumstance, lack of faith, lack of courage, fear etc. make them not act upon it; does not mean you can not make others life better. May be such an act will give you rewards to hang on.

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

Ok Jinx and Ninja, a flip question then. Will you take advice from a person who is not following his own advice?

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

yes if his advice is genuine and if i want to follow a good advice.....

though offtopic but lot of time we just accept those advice which are very close to our own plan of action

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

Nothing Flip about this question. I will take advice from anyone if I find that the advice was given in good faith and is beneficial for me provided that it is within the boundaries of the faith I follow.

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

advice does not have to clash with faith, nor there is an absolute way of figuring out if its beneficial. What if a fat doctor gives you an advice of how to be fit? The advice could be in good faith, but will you trust his judgment?

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

Yes I will. Because I have seen doctors in my family who eat oily dishes like Qorma, paye etc. but ask us the stay away from these :D

Are they not giving the beneficial advice?

A doctor is knowledgable about things such as fitness. It does not mean he is applying his knowledge to himself but if he is telling me as a professional, I will take the advice.

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

If you already know that advice is beneficial then its not an advice, its an endorsement of what you already knew, so its easy to believe or follow regardless of adviser following it or not. =

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

no. sometimes you come to know of something being beneficial when someone tells you about it. You gave example of a doctor on deiting. Almost everyone in this day and age knows what is a healthy diet but you chose the example about which we already know. So it means your example was a trap :D

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

By nature humans are hypocritical. Don't let anyone make u believe otherwise.

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

“The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never of any use to oneself.” ~ Oscar Wilde :hehe:

On a serious note, I personally don’t see anything drastically wrong with offering sincere advice even if you’re not following it yourself – that is, as long as you admit your own weaknesses in the area as well and don’t assume an authentic pretence. The way I see it, by offering sincere advice to someone else, you reinforce the things you already know… you may come to a higher or deeper level of realization of what is right… and you give yourself the opportunity to grow as a person.

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

Exactly :k:

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

Why you gotta bring Star Wars into this, huh? :grumpy:

Re: Are we obligated to follow our own advice?

SOMETIMES THOSE may be the best source. They have livedtheir mistakes and may not have tools to straighten themselves. But they can still provide advice re what to avoid.
