Are we free for what we will be punished ?

It is a very common conception that human being is free Only if someone restricts its freedom. If we look at it historically then human had also faught alot for his freedom but still I am questioning that are we free. It definitly seems very silly at first look. But let us look at following points.

  1. What ever I am right now. It is my environment and What I had inherited from my parents both builded me in this way (If I was at some other place I would be a totally different person asking different questions then what I am asking right now.) and both are not on my decision. Let me define this term environment for which purpose I am using it here right now,“It is composed of every single impression which I am accepting from my surroundings with my senses.” because what ever we see , what ever we sense etc Has an impression on our self it changes us gradually and forms “ourself”.

  2. Now In such case whatever I want to do ,is not exactly I am wanting to do but these wants are injected in me by my environment. It is my environment which is composed of all the options from which I have to select one, and secondly It is my environment which directs me to one of the options and what I do I simply pick that one option and follow it towards which I am directed by my environment.

Now what should I say I am free…

I recommend Mr. Steven Covey’s “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” In that book, he strongly makes the case that no matter how strong our environmental influences, we still have atleast a small degree of freedom in choosing our responses.

From my personal experience: Whenever you feel very tempted to act in a way that you feel is wrong (but cannot stop doing it because it is habit), just stop right there. Close your eyes (of course, not while driving or operating some machinery), and breathe deeply and slowly till you feel calm. And then, you will be able to do “the right thing” so easily that it will surprise you. :flower1:

The ability to choose our response is there in everyone. The more one uses it, the stronger it becomes. :flower1:

Hello,

Mr. Words,
See, how quick my prophecy became true: he is telling you that we have some limited free-will. As they think that correct predictions are 'signs' of prohethood, so i gues I am becoming a prophet too. :D

Mr. Rohit,
Just like Mr. Words put his question/objection into a short paragraph, would also kindly sumarise the argument of Steven Covey, so that we can analyze it.
