During learning sewing and learning about fabric patterns, I came across the fact that we’ve changed since 1950’s. We are becoming more big boned/wider body frames and taller in size. For example, a size that fitted a woman of size 16(UK) in 1950’s would fit a 20-22 sized woman today.
Well stricktly speaking we cannot make any such assumptions given the vast differences between peoples and places.
However as a generall rule it is thought modern economically developed countries have more taller and especially more obese individuals than before due to modern rise of fast foods.
But Living conditions and other factors can help us see things in other terms too.
For example my ancestors were Steppe Nomads who were hunter gatherers and pastoral folk. Naturally they were stronger than modern humans especially the men who would be naturally horsemen and excellent archers capable of pulling heavywieght bows. Hence thier musclar structure and skeletons were a lot bigger than the average desi man of today.
Likewise in Europe while most of the peasants and serfs would have been scrawny there were always more well fed individuals like the sons of lords and they would either be obese and typically lordly of would be tall and strongly built from training in various excercises.
So it depends on many factors… but I would say generally speaking more of us are taller and fatter these days but we are by no means giants.
Speaking of which various scientific theries are out there to explain the existance of giants in our past… some of them make interesting reading… look it up on google perhaps.
I would highlight links but i’m just too much of a Paindoo.
