Yes, there is racism amongst us too, esp against Punjabis :p. Mostly if us Pakistanis refer to someone as "kala, black" its more for telling color than "racism", thats what I've seen so far, and we are generalizer too :o
Big time , I see it happening all the time. We call certain race chaptas because of their facial features, we call certain race kallu . Among our own certain ethnic groups are labeled with various derogatory names. I know all of them but do not want to quote them for fear of starting an ethnic war.
We still need lot of time to grow up as matured , civilized , tolerant society.

while bold part is true in some cases I have witnessed, words like "bhaiye" and the likes are much more similar in nature; in fact it also tells us about the ignorance of people when they only refer to that word to all urdu-speaking people whereas the word is specific to people from Bihar.
The term bhaiye is used so casually that the person saying it doesn't even think twice. Coming from a punjabi background I grew up hearing it every now and then while refering to people from Karachi. But if you look at it from their perspective (people from punjab), they don't mean it as an insult. It's a term accustomed to using towards a certain group and that's all.

Likewise, there are terms used against people of Punjab but are taken as offensive. Point is, terms like these are racial slurs and that's that. Even on this forum, Gupshup, often in a heated argument, people start using these terms against each other and it is never a pleasent outlook.

Yes I agree with your post above. Which brings us to the next question, why we can't stop insulting each other??? What kind of sick pleasures do we get out of putting others down? I have seen people do it out of mere humor while others may be doing it to satisfy some inner complex......
Sajal api!! i was thinking about the same thing and even recorded a voice message that i was going to upload in my blog. Why do people like doing this, i can never understand this!
Aisha, problem with some people is that all they need is to find one little thing wrong or different with a person and that's it..... they got their next victim. Even I don't like the sound of what I just wrote but that's the way things are at times.
yeh of course there is racisim in all culutures our pakistani culutre feels that being fair is better then being dark girls go through so much just to get a color which is not meant for their skin buh ppl dont care it doesnt concern them they carry on doing it hence the reasons alot of pakistani girls may have insercurites about their luks
