I think it’s all because of the makeup.
Typical Pakistani bridal makeup is too heavy, especially around the eyes. Fake eyelashes; heavy, brightly colored (often metallic) eyeshadow; thick eyeliner - all together, it’s just too overwhelming, and makes almost everyone look 10 years older. The eyeshadow is the worst, especially the metallics…they just settle into the skin creases of the eyelids and make them look like wrinkles.
Make-up at the valima (and the mehndi) tends to be lighter…which is why I think people look better then.
