Some say its cuz she’s more relaxed and at ease compared to baraat.
Most women wear red on baraat but most are not able to carry it off that well? Why? IS red not the color for asians?
I have personally seen quite a few of brides who wore red on baraat and didnt look that great but on valima they went with a lighter/softer color and looked nice. Hmm.
Not necessarily. I know of a bride who looked better on her wedding day as opposed to the walima. She did her own makeup for the valima...and it just wasn't all that flattering. Makeup and even other factors (the style of the clothes, disturbing events that take place, etc) can affect how one looks on the valima.
I think the Baraat day is overall more stressful for the bride and her family. Bride deals with the whole process of getting ready, having the nikkah done, all the rasams, and then of course the rukhsati. By the time the valima comes around, the major stressful elements of the wedding are over and it's more relaxing for her. All she has to do is get dressed up and enjoy :)
I think red flatters most skin tones, but it's just about finding the right shade and accessorizing it correctly and constrasting it with the right colours.
No! Everyone said I looked pretty and relaxed on my wedding day. Yes, I was pretty relaxed indeed. I wasn't stressed out for anything. Oh and I didn't wear red on my wedding day. :)

We dont know Lusi ... No one showed us pics :(
I think red is a beautiful color and flatters almost every skin tone…its all about finding the right shade of red though that suits you. Its one of my favorite colors…
I guess on valima day, you might find the bride to be less stressed about the event going well…its not on her mind so she may seem relaxed but does she necessarily look better? I dont think thats always the case.
Typical Pakistani bridal makeup is too heavy, especially around the eyes. Fake eyelashes; heavy, brightly colored (often metallic) eyeshadow; thick eyeliner - all together, it's just too overwhelming, and makes almost everyone look 10 years older. The eyeshadow is the worst, especially the metallics...they just settle into the skin creases of the eyelids and make them look like wrinkles.
Make-up at the valima (and the mehndi) tends to be lighter...which is why I think people look better then.
I have to agree with you in general… since one can wear any color they want on valima (most of the time), the color they choose is the most flattering on their skin tone. I have noticed that the kaam, jewelery, and makeup in general is lessened as well… and u know what they say…sometimes less is more. And with a lot of brides this holds true.
In my case - i think i personally looked better on my baraat day as opposed to walima. Since it my family’s day, i felt more in control and more calm because I knew exactly what was going to happen and what to expect.
I chose a red that I knew would flatter my skin tone. I did my own makeup as well…i did what I thought would suit me on this occassion and did not go overboard just because it was my wedding. I really liked how my makeup turned out on this day.
Others can disagree.. my pics are still up on Gupshup along with the stories of my baraat and walima days!!!
I disagree with you on the red. I think it is just a matter of finding a red shade that suits you. I think red looks amazing on asian skin tones..no matter how light or dark you are. Its just a matter of finding the right match…
Red is so classic and regal… one can not go wrong with it in general as a shade of color for a bridal
I thin its mostly because in wddings brides go for the glamourous makeup and in the reception its more sophisticated/elegant pallete ...n one of my friends actually said that" i didnt smile at all in my wedding. because it was all so tense and so much to do. I genuinely enjoyed my valima much more! ".
I guess the flip side of knowing evrything is the organizing and prep and last minute scuttling at weddings :d so from teh girl's side might be easier to relax on the valima with the family .
