hmm that’s quite interesting. In fact the livestock supply reason sounds a bit strange too, wouldn’t people just buy more on the other days thus ensuring consumption stayed the same?

yes that is true, but restaurants were also not serving meat on those days and because restaurants would not store 2 days worth of meat and them being the bigger buyers than a regular consumers, the supply reason did matter.
