Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

I mean… like…genetically are they connected to the prophet’s family’s bloodline??

Is there any objective evidence (gene analysis…like genetic markers typical of arabs) to suggest that…or its just hearsay?

**DISCLAIMER
**

  1. i am talking about both sunni and shia sayyads…so its NOT SECTARIAN..i don’t want sunni shia debate.

  2. i am not referring to any religious/social implications…

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

First of all, in terms of genetics let's remember a couple of things. When they test for certain markers they only look at either your Y chromosome which you get from your dad, his dad, his dad, etc..and so on. Another thing they look at is Mitochondrial DNA which passes down directly from mothers to their children, so a daughter would have the same MTDNA as her mom, maternal grandma, great maternal grandma and so on . Men can't pass on their MTDNA to their children.

Now the prophet PBUH did not have any son's, so no one alive today would carry his Y chromosome. Further in terms of MTDNA for someone to have that they'd have to be directly related to the prophets daughters in an unbroken female line.

So with genetic testing you would really have a tough time disproving if anyone is related to the prophet, because they could just state that they carry his genes just not in terms of MTDNA or Y chromosome.

Having said all that.

All these people in Pakistan or India claiming they are descendents of the prophet, I am sure for the most part these claims are false. Likely people just made them up to give themselves a sense of importance. I am sure the prophet does have descendents, but they are in an around Arabia. I don't think they got on a horse and migrated thousands of miles east.

Sorry I just don't see it likely that someone from Bihar is related to the prophet. I don't believe these claims at all.

I don't have a problem believing that the royal Jordanian family are related to him, they have textual records and names to back up their claimes, plus in terms of their location it makes sense.

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

So I come from a Syed family (my father). Growing up, I heard that this this means that we are descendants/of the blood line of the Holy Prophet BUT that did not mean that we are in any way exalted or more special/important than the average human being. So I, myself, do not pt much stock in this notion that Syeds should only marry Syeds or whatnot. Now having said that, my dads older brother, who I call Chacha Baba, is somewhat of a historian. He collects and documents artifacts and documents from all over the world. He was the last of my dad's brothers to leave India and settle in KHI, so while he was still in Hyderabad, he worked with a genealogist from Osmania University to chart their family tree and trace back their descendants. I honestly do not remember all the details so I don't want to make up facts and talk out my ass, but I specifically know that my fathers lineage traces back to a Arab tribe that crossed through Iran to settle into the Indian subcontinent. So from what Chacha Baba explained to me, yes, in our specific case, our family lineage is linked to the Holy Prophets blood line,

How? I honestly don't know.

Point I'm trying to make is that it makes absolutely no difference on the life I'm living today. In my eyes, I'm just trying to do right by the values and morals taught by parents so that on the Day of Judgement, I can answer to Allah like everybody else.

They might be but I don't see how that makes a difference.

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

my family claims that we r sayyad if it is true then its a great thing

few ppls who r not sayyad refused to give their daughter in my nikah....

they said we do not marry our daughters to sayyad

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

I think sometimes we take it a bit too far...like saying Syeds ko aag haram hai so they can never go to hell.

Its not true...if anything it might carry more responsibility to be a better person.

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

It depends there are ppl who claim they are syeds n when u ask them abt their lineage they hv no clue....those im sorry are fakes then there are ppl who have trees that are traced back n they even know verbally those are descendants of the prophet...

My fathers family is my mothers isnt so i fail to understand the syed hv to marry syed mindset that desis have but as for ur original question the real syeds have documentation to prove their lineage...n its usually certified by some organization...nomi u live in pak u shud know this stuff

Being a syed makes u no better than anyone else...dunno why we make a big deal of it either

^ This! :k:

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

Two of my uncles married Syed girls (but we aren't ourselves).. well they say they are anyway..

Perhaps there should be DNA testing to make it clear :D

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

This point. It is called a "shajrah" and it is a very elaborate family tree. All true syeds can provide this.

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

Is there a race who is willing to carry prophets intellectual legacy ?

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

^that don't matter............. you need a shajra....and you are good to go :D

Good to know the Holy Prophet's family openly violates his own hadis.

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

If you guys don't bow down and kiss my feet I'm going to murder you all.

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

my family's apparently syeds but in the grand scheme of history, they're also recent descendants from the middle east to Pakistan. We have a shajrah that documents everything (my dad is a history buff). Also most syed family's will be able to trace their family line back. There was a rishta that came a while ago that said they were syed but didn't have a shajrah or anything...it was random. Regarldess, my parents said no though NOT because of the syed issue but other things. There are people in pak that make a huge deal about syeds marryig syeds but thankfully my parents don't care.

Re: Are sayyads progeny/pedigree/bloodline/descendants of the Prophet SAW??

I had no idea who Syeds were until I read it on these forums. Thankfully, my parents don't think castes/lineage are important.
