Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

There is not country that has done more to destroy the Pakistan than Saudi Arabia and its petrodollars in terms of funding its version of destructive Islam. So, I guess their help is not needed, but just look the countries that have donated most money to help Pakistan. Where is “Ummah”?

Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

By Muhammad Akram

LAHORE: Except Kuwait, Turkey and the UAE, Pakistan has failed to receive any aid for its flood victims from any other Islamic country. The three countries have offered $5 million, $269,183 and $20,027 respectively, so far. While China with $1,479,290 and Sri Lanka with $26,667 are the only neighbouring countries that have come to the country’s aid.

According to statistics, the countries most hated by Pakistanis – as per various opinion polls – the US and UK are the two major contributors so far, while the list of remaining donors does not include any Islamic country, however, prominent donors include Germany, France, Greece, Czech Republic, Sweden and Australia. According to the information available, the total amount pledged to Pakistan so far is $84,294,357, much lower than what the UN has sought in its various appeals to the international community.

The UN has launched an appeal for more than $450 million to help those affected. At least 1,600 people have died and many more are missing. This has happened at a time when Pakistan has issued new flood warnings that could last into the weekend as government and relief agencies scramble to confront the toll from a growing into a humanitarian disaster. The UN says, “Floods have decimated Pakistan: the number of people suffering could exceed 13 million – more than the combined total of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.”

The people of Pakistan, particularly flood victims, want to know what has happened to the rulers and people of Iran and Saudi Arabia, which have not expressed any intent, let alone offering anything in aid to their Pakistani brothers and sisters. The aid to Pakistan would not be for its rulers, if there existed any misgivings, but for the people who have yet to find means to survive, as a new flood of an almost equal intensity is about to hit various districts of Sindh and Punjab this weekend.

As far as neighbours such as India and Afghanistan are concerned, Pakistan can least expect from both, since none of the two had offered anything so far. As for India, which offered $500 million in aid during the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, the offer was refused by Pakistani authorities in the first place and whatever was allowed in was let to rot at security checkposts on the border.

Pakistan has always looked to Saudi Arabia whenever it faced a difficulty. According to diplomatic sources, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are not enjoying the best of ties since the PPP government assumed power, replacing the quasi-military government of Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf, with whom the Saudi rulers had the best of relations like they had with every military ruler in Pakistan. The FO had always played down the souring ties with Saudi Arabia, said a source in the office.

However, international relations experts say a lukewarm response from Saudi Arabia and Iran is difficult to understand, as it is not the government but the people of Pakistan who are suffering and awaiting aid from both the countries.

It is important to mention here the appeal made by Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Munibur Rehman on the eve of the Ramazan moon-sighting, to the Pakistanis intending to perform Haj and Umra this year to cancel their plans and spend the money for the flood-hit people instead. Taking a hint from the appeal, the government would be justified in banning Haj by Pakistanis this year as done by Tunisia last year due to fears of swine flu.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

Saudi Arabia has helped in supplying tons of food ,medicine ,equiptment and tents and blankets. Its better than sending money cause the Saudies know that sending money wont be a good idea due to Paks corrupt record.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

Saudis were never our friends, never trust arabs and we always had tough relations with Iran cuz of the india factor.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

Why do we have ask this with every country? Instead, we can just thank the ones that give generously.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

^ another blind poster, did you read my response at all? deleted

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

This is childish but this is how most Pakistanis living in pakistan think, "you're my friend only if you show me some $".

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

I would re-phrase the question and ask: Are Pakistani politicians not Pakistani people's friends anymore?

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

What happened to the more than 5 billion dollars that was donated for the earth quick victims???

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

What are you talking about?!

Saudi Arabia has sent so much Aid! Their Cargo fleet is on the ground at major Pakistani airports!!! They have sent quite a bit of Aid. Same goes for Iran. They just sent a large cargo airport packed with goods for the victims of the floods.

Please research more and read more before posting such comments.

The Pakistani media are actually a complete bunch of misfits they do not know anything.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

Lets put stuff in context. The 800 million we received for the Kashmir Earthquake originally 600 million was from the OIC/Muslim world. The EU did nothing. The US did little. Secondly the writer is only pointing out what has been reported in the Media thus far. He also forgot to include Jordan in his list.

http://arabnews.com/saudiarabia/article95470.ece

As for fact. Saudi Arabia pledged 100 million dollars. More than the US and UK.

http://arabnews.com/world/article98465.ece

I got that after a 2 second google search.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

OIC is holding a session on 18th to gather more support and UN on 19th.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

Yes, rightly pointed out CM.

I remmeber during that time sillybilly kept track of all donations to Pakistan and 2/3rd came from muslim world.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

so we may have OIC doing something fairly significant for a change instead of their mere rhetorics of condemning oppression against the muslims

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

Yeah that is why 70% of our aid for the earthquake came from the OIC and why Saudi has given more than everybody combined for the floods.

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

A little eye-opener for OP, who’s obviously duped by everything Anti-Saudi.

King orders fundraiser for Pakistan flood relief

JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia launched a nationwide fundraising campaign on Monday for Pakistan’s flood victims, on the instructions of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif said.

King Abdullah inaugurated the campaign by giving SR20 million while Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, donated SR10 million and Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif SR5 million to the fund.

“We have instructed all regional governors to set up subsidiary committees to collect donations and encourage businessmen and other citizens to participate actively in the campaign, which is named after King Abdullah,” Prince Naif told the Saudi Press Agency.

He said potential donors could deposit their money in account No. SA8710000020162400000107 at National Commercial Bank or transfer their money using NCB’s telebanking service or ATMs or Al-Ahli online service.

In response to the king’s call, Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan identified locations in the region to collect donations. They include the headquarters of the King Abdul Aziz Charitable Society and Prince Fahd bin Sultan Social Program. The governor also set up a committee to organize the fundraising.

Saudi Arabia has already sent 16 planeloads of relief supplies to Pakistan after the country was hit by the worst floods in its history. On Sunday, the 15th and 16th cargo flights arrived in Pakistani airports with Saudi supplies.

Saudi Finance Ministry officials Abdullah Al-Muhaisen, Abdul Aziz Al-Fayad and Abdullah Al-Dossary handed over the relief supplies to Pakistani authorities. The Saudi Embassy in Islamabad is supervising the distribution of Saudi aid among the victims.

The Kingdom has pledged $100 million relief for Pakistan. “We are coordinating with UN agencies to distribute the humanitarian and emergency relief supplies,” an official statement said.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who surveyed the devastation caused by the torrential floods on Sunday, said he had never seen anything like it in his life. He urged foreign donors to speed up assistance to the 20 million people affected.

The floods that began more than two weeks ago in Pakistan’s mountainous northwest have now affected about a quarter of the country, especially its agricultural heartland. While the death toll of 1,500 is relatively small, the scale of the flooding and number of people whose lives have been disrupted is staggering.

The United Nations has appealed for an initial $460 million to provide relief, but only 20 percent has been given. Once the floods recede, billions more will be needed for reconstruction and getting people back to work.

KSA has always been among the first very few nations to always come to help of Pakistan, whether it’s wartime, or other disasters. Instead of being thankful and gracious, the OP decides to tow a line that is rather ungrateful. It’s a shame, some of my Pakistani brothers do not appreciate the truest friends (KSA, China, Turkey) and instead speak out of impatience driven by alternate motives that may be pushed through mass media overtime. Lets not poison our logic, and lets all think clearly.

Credit where it’s due. Thank you so much Saudi Arabia. A brother in need is a brother indeed.

Now on to second matter that is equally related to this distribution of funds. I hope to God they do not hand the money over to GoP. We’re all aware of how “transparent” that process of distribution will be. The money should instead be given to time-proven organization who are honest in their charity work and ensure the money gets to right people. Namely Edhi, and i’m sure there are other very noble organizations that are currently active in relief work (including the institution of Armed Forces).

Re: Are Saudis, Iranis not Pakistan’s friends anymore?

Saudia has always been the biggest contributor whenever we needed it...
