Can you answer me where was tie/suit before brits came to this land?

Well, our Prophet(saw) wasn't exactly walking around in salwar kameez - maybe you should try a thobe. :)
What's the difference between an article of clothing which came from hindu culture and an article of clothing which came from british - both can be 'islamic' it's just the amount of fabric you use.
This is the third time I need to say its not about religion or what the Prophet PBUH wore amana.
Its even more hilarious that people are trying to justify non-Pakistani attire in the name of religion which is not even part of the discussion.
Its about the identity and culture of Pakistan and its overall image.
I agree with the tie and suit business...that's just lame, considering how out-of-fashion most of those damn suits are. If you're going to imitate Westerners, at least do it right....
If people adopt these tings as a matter of co-opting them, it's fine. If people do it to imitate and escape from their own culture, then they're being stupid and slavish.
Shalwar kamiz, complements of Zia era is hardly an indicator. If you say pakistanis are slaves for copying the west, I can say something like "Every person in pakistan is a slave for adhering to the country's norms" Doesnt mean anything. Look all I am saying is that its not such a big deal. The more important thing is to look out for the general well-being of people And if you want to strive to be a proud pakistani follow the nation's father, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, an educated, disciplined man who was seen wearing suits too. He donned sherwani as a public figure , but it doesnt mean anything more than a "symbol" he was still the same personality in a suit and tie.
By the way, I am all for preserving culture and heritage, but do realize that what we are doing today will become the heritage of our future generations.
The idea of not going against or correcting elders even when they are blatantly wrong about serious or religious issues is a clear example of this.
Thanks for your opinion. Unfortunately its not related to the topic.
Its not Pakistani culture to do 'wrong' things if elders say so. Each adult is responsible for his/her action.
Besides I am talking about the over reaction.
Good culture need to be adopted at the expense of wrong rituals......without losing the identity and dignity.
1-A person who wears shalwar qameez and talks truth is better than a person who lies in english....correct?
2-A person who lies while wearing shalwar qameez is certainly no better than a person who speaks truth while wearing tie/suit.
So now that I have clarified this can we stick to Identity and cultural promotion rather than going to religion again and again?
I knew the discussion about the Great Quaid was coming soon.
He spent most of his time either in Britain or British India.
He did wear traditional attire when represented pakistan. He is seen wearing traditional attire while becoming first Governer general. Any idea why he chose that attire?
Yes it is true that our legacy must be to do the right thing and stick to principles but identity is just as important.
Who are we as Pakistani?
Try not to support a non-pakistani attire hiding behind philosophical ideas.
We need to admit that we have slave mentality in many areas of our lives as mentioned in earlier post.
If people adopt these tings as a matter of co-opting them, it's fine. If people do it to imitate and escape from their own culture, then they're being stupid and slavish.
Yes.
Its called cheap imitation when one can speak one's own language but prefers speaking other language just to become part of a different club!
I did not say anything about supporting non-pakistani attire, all I said was its not such a big deal, It is important to be a better person overall.
My final verdict remains that wearing shalwar kamiz means Zilch.
How is my post a personal attack.....just wondering. I stated the fact that you did not get the point of my sentence about dignity (and I even extended my apologies for not clarifying it before)
Still I have no problem apologizing for even making you feel that I personally attacked you.
Off course stay a better person. Please also wear traditional attire.
If not shalwar qameez then Kurta Pajama.....sindhi/balochi/pakhtoon or whatever attire from Pakistan.
We made great city Lahore......... Lollywood......after indians making bollywood and off course Hollywoood in US. We never attempted to make Lahore industry better and competitive but sure we made it Lollywood on paper.
Its called cheap imitation when one can speak one's own language but prefers speaking other language just to become part of a different club!
I agree, but I don't know how prevalent that attitude is.
If indeed people are, say, speaking English or dressing a certain way because they're ashamed of anything and everything Pakistani, then they're being stupid.
As for dress, considering Pakistan probably makes a good proportion of clothes being worn in the West, it only follows that some would leak out into the local market...heck, half our clothing here in Canada is made in china...so technically we're wearing Chinese clothing.
If people adopt these tings as a matter of co-opting them, it's fine. If people do it to imitate and escape from their own culture, then they're being stupid and slavish.
South Asian culture would be boring if it didn’t borrow from other cultures, our regions culture is so great because it has influences from so many different cultures, everything changes, the only unchanging thing is change, when a culture stops evolving it dies.
Every culture is influenced by other cultures, Pakistan’s culture is essentially South Asian like India, with a few foreign (Arab, Persian, Turkish, British) influences, the good foreign influences are good they enrich Pakistan’s culture.
Being a wanna be is wrong, we’ll be considered Pakistani no matter what we do, so we shouldn't try to be something we can’t be and only adopt the good things from other cultures whilst maintaining our distinct Pakistani identity.
More than half of Pakistani plays/dramas/political programs etc titles or discussions are in English....
People on Pakistan TV speak too much and unnecessary English.....or ............half English!
Slowly slowly we have got rid of our cultural music and shamelessly play english records......Majority people in Pakistan don't even understand simple english let alone popular songs!!
Hillarious or Not?
Slavary or not?
Who are these people communicating to or trying to communicate?
Pakistani people or non-Pakistani who don't even care what Pakistani journalists/news anchor have to say?
