The reason of claiming to be a Pushton may be that they might originally have migrated from some area of Pushton majority. But due to their vacinity to the adjoining area (of Punjab) their language have been changed; in the very same way in which civilizations blend and give rise to a whole new culture; having the traits of a number of cultures.

My nani's Side are Niazis, they cant speak Pashtu because they have been living in Punjab for a long time, both the Indian and now the Pakistani Punjab.Im not aware of the Mianwali Niazi's though.

same with Rohilla pashtuns, there is hardly anyone who speaks pushto now, all have transitioned to urdu over teh centuries

your case is different , as a niazi family settled in indian punjab, surrounded by all punjabi speaking people, will surely lose thier langauge. i m speaking of mianwali's niazis who claim 90 % magority in mianwali. i m surprized how they have lost their langauge. if all of ur neighbours or people of ur mohllah or village are pashtu speaking, they u cant forget ur mother tongue and automatically adopt langauge of a minority. this made me think that probably niazis are punjabies or originally pashtuns were minority in mianwali but later many punjabies in mianwali claim thereselves to be niazi to gain good status .

Most of pashtuns in afghanistan know farsi, but their mother tongue is pashto. these bilingual pashtuns are proud to call themselves pashtuns. in pakistan case is different , pashtuns settled in cities of pakistan like karchi , lohaore, pindi...are ashame of their pashtun origin and usually lose their mother tongue in just 2nd generation.
after 7 generations these strange mixed pathans will surprizingly take pride in being pathan.

there was pashto untill 1857 in rohilla villages in rohillkand, but british destoyed thier population and rohillas became scattered due to which they lost their langauge.

now you are assuming things, pashtuns are always very proud of there origin.
But yes its way different then pashtuns in afghanistan, In pakistan they have become pakistanis. Which we don't consider a bad things.
In afghanistan, we still see some problems based on racial pride.

while there was pushto there until 1857 (and beyond) even thyen it had slowly given way to urdu among people. generation after generation, pushto was decreasing in the percentage of newgeneration that spoke it.
Roillas didnot get that scattered, vast majority of them stayed there, the change was that aside from rampur and bareilly, they moved to other parts of of the state i.e. saharanpur, ambetta etc.

Niazis are pashtuns who settled in Mianwali among other places during the time of Mahmud Ghazni and I disagree that they have mostly Punjabi phenotypes, notable example being Imran Khan Niazi, Shermankhel. Mianwali although included in Punjab lies at the confluence of NWFP and Punjab. The Niazis first rose to prominence during the time of Mahmud Ghazni
Niazis in Pakistan currently live mainly in Mianwali district of Punjab, Bannu, Laki Marwat and Kohat However, a large number of the Niazi tribe still lives in parts of Afghanistan, mainly in Qalaye Niazi, Gardez, Logar and Paktia province. A considerable number have also settled in Karachi and other major Pakistani cities such as Lahore and Islamabad.
Pre 1901 there was no such thing as NWFP. In November 1901, North West Frontier Province was carved out of Punjab and present day towns of Mianwali, Isa Khel, Kalabagh, and Kundian were separated from Bannu District (NWFP)and hence a new district was made with the headquarters in Mianwali city and placed in Punjab.
