There have been many provocative movements revolving around language conflicts.
If we look at short period of Pakistan history, we have Bengali-Urdu conflict and then we had riots in Sindh during 1970s and 1980s on this matter.
Are languages that important that people can sacrifice their lives and can take others lives?
Aren’t there any other ways to show your concern / love for your language than belittling others languages or forcefully imposing your language on others?
re: Are languages more important than human lives?
I think languages are very important as they have an emotional bearing, but no one justifies taking or giving lives. Peaceful protests can have a bigger impact.

Do you know what is the official language of BanglaDesh after so much noise / protests/ riots / killing in the name of Bangla language?
re: Are languages more important than human lives?
I do not consider language more important than human life in any case. But for some people, it becomes more important than the human life when they find something against their native language from others.
Such people are found in almost every ethnicity in Pakistan.

Should be Bangla?
Its English. There was also Hindu-Urdu conflict politicized during Indian independence movement. We all know the status of Urdu and Hindi in respective countries.

Again why people provoke others when they know language could be a sensitive matter.

for me, blame should be on both sides. And, that is the answer to your question that people do consider language more important than human life, whatever side they are on.
Re: Are languages more important than human lives?
Idiots kill each other over such language issue and they deserved to get killed anyway.
Language issue is so dumb to begin with, punjabi in which GuruGranth Sahib is written is so different to understand that now it feels that punjabi that I speak is not the one written over there.
Same might have happened to other language. Culture is not a fixed slate so is langauge, not even religion, just 300 hundred year ago my forefather had different religion
there are two official languages in any state, English and regional language. One can speak in any scheduled 18 languages in the parliament.

Agree that languages do change and not in centuries but within decades. Languages get affected by other languages vocabulary.
The astonishing part is attitude of scholars of language, who can't lead people in right direction when a conflict arises.
Re: Are languages more important than human lives?
so actually there is nothing like love for language as its just hilighted for gaining political mileage.
What made you take such an extreme view?
Of course there is something called genuine appreciate and love for language, most normal human beings with decent intellectual capacity have that. It's only when that love is infused with lust for power, rebellion and ambition, that you get all kinds of problems.

When someone uses language to raise a conflict and forget importance of the same language after achieving political mileage (as we saw in case of Bangali in Bangla-Desh), then such inferences seems right. No?

Oh ok. Yeah in that case it makes sense to have such impression.
