Are icons and symbols anti-islam?

Many muslims say icons and idols are banned. aren’t things like medals, flags, even symbols like beards icons?

or is only the worship of idols banned, not just making and keeping them?

maste dunno taking photos is considered unislamic...but that didnt stop me ...but will check and make sure

what I have been lead to believe is that idols, photos, statues, pictures of humans and animals.(living creatures)... those with eyes and symbols associated with other religions ie crosses are unislamic.
