I was thinking about this the other day…and I was trying to think of another animal in the world that kills for fun aside from humans.
Humans murder each other and they hunt and kill animals for sport. Animals do kill other animals, but it’s nearly always for food, protecting themselves etc.
So, is there any other animal in the world that kills even though they don’t have to?
Re: Are humans the only “animals” that kill for fun?
Maybe not intentionally but there are incidents when animals in Circus or at Zoo got too playful with their trainers or feeders and ended up killing them. Very recently a whale killed her trainor at San Diego Sea World. The whale was just being playful.
Re: Are humans the only "animals" that kill for fun?
Yeah many animals kill for reasons beside food, Territory is one of the big reasons.
Even cute animals like dolphins are known to kill small purpoises just for fun...
Wolves often kill domestic dogs and vice versa just for kicks too...
I also know many raptor species will hunt and kill other animals but not eat them... often this is due to the fact that raptors like some humans get a buzz from killing big game. Goshawks for example are known to take on other bird species much larger than themselves.
Many predators compete for food and often eliminate each others offspring to reduce competition.
What I do know is that few if any species has managed to utilise it's surroundings the way humans have. Many predators are naturally armed with awesome weaponry but none can match the human arsenal.
But sadly humans are not the only species known to hunt just for fun...
So Syraa yes there are many animals who will hunt and kill for reasons other than food, some of those animal qualities have then been exploited by humans.

I know animals kill for other reasons aside from food...like you said there's territory and judging by the examples you posted perhaps even competition. But they aren't really killing for "fun" are they?

Yeah like I said there are cases of animals killing for fun.
I know from experience that Wolves definately have a habbit of killing things for no apparrent reason....
Dolphins were proven to be the culprits behind a string of Porpoise murders across both sides of the Atlantic....
And many raptor species will hunt and kill several victims purely for the joy of the kill. In the case of raptors and dogs maybe this is influenced by humans....
But as for Dolphins and Wolves they are two very shaddy characters in terms of animal behavior that said I still think they are awesome.
Many younger predators do indeed kill out of sheer joy.... in fact this influences the type of prey they go for... Many predators like a good chase and will take on certain animals even though there is much easier prey out there.
