Re: Are diamond engagement rings becoming popular among Pakistanis?
I got a diamond, but I actually am not much into diamonds, would have prefered something else since I also prefer something a little different.
But it turned out great because my fiance custom designed the ring for me (so it was unique) and also incorporated my fav stones (ocean blue sapphire and swiss blue topaz into it too).
I agree with the point about not getting the biggest size possible, I think you should get what looks best on your hand. My fiance was keen to get me something around the 2 carat mark, but I convinced him that it would completley wrong on my hand as my fingers are so slender. In the end he settled for a 1 carat but also with diamonds on the side, and got a great clarity and colour so it really sparkles and I couldn't be happier with his final choice.
what if really really really big diamonds suit your hand? :(
Re: Are diamond engagement rings becoming popular among Pakistanis?
That's what I meant, you should go with whatever suits you. Big diamonds don't suit my hand or my personality, so I would have been a little disatissfied getting a big rock. But if they work for you, and the budget allows, then go for it :)

^ its so true! matching the size of your diamond to your lifestyle and personality is so important otherwise it will end up sitting in your jewellery box. a friend of mine traded in her fiance-given 2 carat pear shaped diamond for a 0.5 carat black diamond surrounded by tiny little white diamonds, and that ring suits her to a tee. its a gorgeous ring too- its locally made by a canadian designer, very unique, and looks just right on her hand.
Overrated. And gosh what if hte guy cant afford ANY type of ring? is he not worthy of marrying then?
yeah he definitely isnt...
It definitely is overrated. Wanting a big sparkly rock does reflect the materialistic North American culture. But I guess most girls always dream of a big rock on their fingers and it's hard to give up that dream! haha
As much money that is spent on a wedding.... im sure the groom can squeeze in a little bit for an engegment ring... the grooms side gets the girl sets anyway... why not a lil engagement ring... of course ever women dreams of big sparkly one... but im sure no woman wants her husband to go broke getting her one... i dont think its overrated....
Weddings are special everywhere in the world; we're all entitled to get a little starry-eyed over the associated goods!
Ur absolutely right... we give up everything... we are entitled to diamonds... after all they are a girls best friend...
