Are diamond engagement rings becoming popular among Pakistanis?

Re: Are diamond engagement rings becoming popular among Pakistanis?

Inmho I think this ring thing is mostly a western thing that Pakis have caught onto. The thing is, as long as you get a ring that looks nice be happy. Who cares if someones is bigger or shines more? My husband actually told me not to get him a ring because he said it wasn't necessary as it is not Islamically important. I wanted to so badly get him one but hey, it saved my Mom tons of money and my hubby knew we couldn't afford the best of everything. As for my ring, I didn't get it till after the wedding! There was no way my hubs could come to my area to go ring shopping at the time. My Mom told him we could buy the ring and he could pay later but he insisted on being there with me when getting the ring. Honestly, I got a semi precious ruby which looks gorgeous and I get complimented on it all the time and guess what..it cost less than a traditional ring but is still gorgeous. The thing is, I am simple to begin with and don't care for "real jewels" as I believe if it is fake and looks almost or as good as the real then whats the problem. My hubby insisted I get a semi precious meaning it was still almost as good as the real thing although if my ring was still of quality but not real at all, just completely fake I would have still been happy. After all, I got the biggest jewel of all, my hubby!:D
