Are desis nondiscriminatory?

Every other day I hear elders talking about how there’s discrimination here. I hear desis complaining about Western countries discriminating them and how the Arabs discriminate against them. I’m sure there must be many more such examples of nations/ethnicities that discriminate against desis.

Are desis nondiscriminatory themselves? What is so wrong with us that we get discriminated? Don’t we discriminate? Or is our hatred and discrimination for others confined within our hearts in a manner that doesn’t harm or affect others?

If desis do discriminate against others then I feel they have no right to complain about the discrimination that they are faced with.

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

Every minority does it. Be they arab, muslim, hindu yadda yadda yadda. It is a natural human tendency to accuse others of discrimantion.

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

Everyone discriminates, Desis look down on Blacks and Latinos (drools over that young rnb singer with the lisp), Sikhs discriminates against Muslims, Muslims against Hindus, north Indians against south Indians, whites against curries.

but some do it hadd se ziyada.

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

Do desis discriminate? Of course they do, otherwise there will be no Sindhi, Mohajir, Pathan, Baluch problems in Pakistan. We do discriminate in our own backyards, but when we are in someone's backyard and get discriminated then we complain :D . But perhaps we don't discriminate the way we get discriminated "publicly".

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

Watch the movie 'Crash'.

It pretty much shows how every single race and ethnicity out there is involved in racism and believe in racial stereotypes.

Yeah desi's discriminate just like the rest...

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

I know desis love to discriminate against Blacks. I think it is a skin color thing but can’t be sure. My mother is one of them :halo:

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

Now that we have established that desis do discriminate, is it limited to words only or does it include doing things that harms others? For instance, the type of discrimination desis complain most about is not getting a particular job even when they were the most qualified or suited for the position.

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

To answer this question, we need input from an Afghan refugee, a Bengali, a Pakistani Christian or a Pakistani Hindu.

Job discrimination is very common in Pakistan. I have no first hand experience, but if you read Dawn, they have had articles about it in the past.

Also, discrimination feels worst when it's not your own kind doing it. In the mid-east people feel it more because of a general feeling of helplessness. There is absolutely nothing you can do if you didn't get promoted even if you were more qualified. Transferring work permits is difficult and arguing with anyone gets your fired. Well you can quit, but then you have to go back, which leaves you without a job.

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

^ Thank you for the examples. I'll remember them the next time I hear fellow desis complaining.

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

Personal experiences Sadiyah? I remember a close relations family being stopped at Islamabad airport and subjected to additional checks "because they are pathan and must be into drugs" ..the people consisted of an elderly woman ..who was a doctor in peshawar and her two under age children.

Re: Are desis nondiscriminatory?

I peronaly think people who discriminate others forget 2 have a look at themselves. Every human is made by Allah (SWA) so what right does this give us humans to discriminate or judge, muslim or non muslim, black or white. It's us people who invent such things & therefore its only us people that can prevent this, so face up to these issues & try & prevent them from happening!!
