Skipping the point of making efforts and focusing on amount of remorse… seems you still not getting it.
if you want to quit smoking and you could help it on your own you will go for counselling as making an effort, if you are really serious.
The other point is not everybody can be near to pefect state let alone perfection. And this issue is also addressed in ahadith/scripture that changing state of eman is with those who have eman. And for those who are always looking for shortcusts and exemptions will get reward accordingly.

No, I very much get it buddy. It seems like you aren’t getting what I am saying. This is my first sentence:
If someone gives enough of a sht about following religious rules and changing their ways for the better after engaging in whatever sinful behavior they did **to sincerely beg for forgiveness **and move on to more holy behavior, then the deed is done.

The implied effort is literally in the sentence.Again, I don’t see why I have to sit there and address the entire process of the ~troo~ way of cleansing yourself of sin because the point is pretty much there.
