are books going to be obsolete?

as electronic means of keeping books are being used, do you feel that books, in the main stream life will become obsolete?
do you agree with this social change?
if the paper and ink or the printing press is all obsolete, THEN WHAT WOULD YOU DO? :>

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

I don’t think so.. I will prefer a book in ANY case. :chai:

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

we will adapt.

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

to some degree - not altogether
I used to be an addict - I mean couple of years ago I couldn't sleep without reading anything in bed and my night table used to be a mini library.
With the arrival of the internet that time has been taken over by browsing/email and other things

I miss those good old days - coffee cup by the side, a good book in hand and the light switch just an arms length away - in bed :(

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

now you have a child, james_bhaand. you can read your boy a story still.

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

lifeless,
there is no comparison, between a book inyour hands and a pdf on your laptop screen.
but i see what you mean. i pray and hope that good books will continue to be made, sold, read, shared, and kept safe. :>

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

nope dushi baji. books are something that still fascinate a huge public. ink can’t go out of style. i have a hard time reading journal articles on my lappy, so i go and spend money on printing them/photocopying them. i just bought a huge bunch of books in pakistan, and my favorite part of pakistan was the time i spent in the bookstore  nerd smiley

the GS public is very much into books too. check out the society and literature forum. the suggest a book thread is going strong still.

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

Nothing can replace book reading. No better pleasure.

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

some people can call me old fashioned but in my opinion, no matter what media a “book” is in, it simply can’t replace the FEELING and texture of the pages, it has to be in my hands when I am reading it. :chai:

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

:> i know, Khumar. hopefully, it will get buzzier.
if each one of us read a good book a month and posted its info as book review, in no time there will be a pretty literate and intellectually brainier lot at GS.
some may not share, still. but, each to their own. what matters is those few of us, who would like to have and share good books as part of our everyday lives.

Re: are books going to be obsolete?

Nope I still prefer reading in hardback or paperback. I can't imagine books in their current form becoming obsolete.

Re: are books going to be obsolete?
