Architecture...

Architecture is form of both Art and Science. It can be classified can be classified into nameless catagories based on region, religion, ethnicity, history, education, theory, era, structural elements, other elementts of art, etc.

Some very basic examples:

Religious architecture

So share pictures of architectural pieces of your choice, it can be a picture from the net or one taken by you on a trip. Also see if you would like to classify it in a certain category and maybe mention few architectural details that might have mesmerized you (if you would like to)… I would contribute more later. :cheegum:

SO I started a thread in the earlier days of RKS and ask this question and posted these pics

Re: Architecture…

TLK your thread was too complicated. :stuck_out_tongue:

I guess my example would be the pyramids at Giza. Part of the Ancient Wonders of the World, and the New Wonders of the World, the pyramids were built thousands of years ago. They are a mystery, as to how exactly they were built, as each of the stones can weigh a ton. Essentially tombs, the pyramids were also built to show to the people of Egypt and the world how great the empire of Egypt was, and how great the Pharaoh was. The pyramid itself has many nooks and crannies, that archealogists are still discovering to this day. For example, there are little chambers, which are not big enough for a human to pass through, but are built so the soul of the pharaoh can pass from this world onto the next, and come back to the pyramid. Basically little doors for the souls.

TLk, I think in many cases and especially architectire they are pretty much directly propotional to eachother. Science is the engeineering involved to make that piece and arts is the artistic qualities in that piece.

Even if you keep the feild of artitecture aside, they are many crafts and areas of arts that requires the use of science. Just take sculpturing or pottery making, they require both art and science.

So to answer your question. Yes, I think they both are mant times integrated in making of different things.

P.S. Did I answer your question...lol?

Hareem, the link doesn’t works. Can you please check it.

Thanks! :cheegum:

Re: Architecture…

Now lets talk about the stuff you have posted

This building is the center of musical education and performing arts in Gateshed on Tyne River, England. It is called The Sage Gateshead.

Now I was reading about this building and there are many interesting opinions of how people look at this building. The designers of this building were well known prostitutioners therefore many people think that the design of this building has a link with designers’ side career. If you look at the building from the side view, many people think that it refers to a shiny condom. Many other people think that it is a huge wave falling on the other side like backwards. I kind of agree more with the other group of people. I also think the use of different tints of blue on the glass makes the wave effect more real. With the changing color of the sky it gives different effects and reflections on different parts of the building.

I also feel that it look like it looks like a half bow made of a ribbon.

So yeah these are just my two cents…

Re: Architecture…

that building reminds me of a cross between Walt Disney Theater in Los Angeles (much highlighted in the movie Get Smart).

and the Sydney Opera House

Both built during different time periods, from different material, but pretty much for the same purposes. But, I find the Walt Disney Theater an ugly building (i read about it long time ago when it was first being built, probably an old time or national geographic issue), and i pretty much agree with the author that it’s not a very pretty building. Up close the aluminum with which the building is built looks pretty, from afar it isn’t that gorgeous. While the Sydney Opera house has just something unique and pretty about it. It captures you much more, and is engraved in your memory more so.

Copenhagen X is a project under Danish Architecture Centre, supported by a partnership between Realdania - Foundation for the Built Environment, Frederiksberg Municipality and the City of Copenhagen

This is a hand held shot, I had no tripod, and used long exposure of course for the colors : )

Re: Architecture...

ooo i like this thread!

Thank you girls…I had to walk all the way to the other side of the circular quay to take this shot and i am rather proud how the pic turned out.

here are few more…and ofcourse all are taken by maabadolat : -)

The last pic Bridge of sighs(i just love the name) is one of the most famous bridges in venice. It connects the interrogation rooms of the Doge’s palace to the state prison across the canal and was originally built to transport prisoners to their cells after their trial and conviction. The name Bridge Of Sighs was invented in 18th century by Lord Byron suggesting that the condemned prisoner would sigh over their last view of venice while heading towards their cells. sigh
