No. In today’s day & age foreign policy of every country is primarily decided by national (and mutual ) interests and not by religion. Pak army should not involve itself in another country’s internal matters
Dubai: Pakistan’s parliament has rebuffed a Saudi request for military participation in its offensive against Yemeni rebels, delivering a blow to Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The parliament unanimously passed a resolution affirming its neutrality in the Yemeni conflict, but expressed “unequivocal” support for Saudi Arabia and pledged to defend the kingdom in case of any violation of its territorial integrity or threat to holy sites of Makkah and Medina.
“There is a message to Al Houthis too,” said a senior Pakistani official. “If they go across the border into Saudi Arabia, we will certainly be there in support of the Saudis,” he told the Financial Times.
UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash said on Twitter that the Pakistani parliament’s rejection of intervention in Yemen is “unexpected from Islamabad”.
The Pakistani parliament’s decision that stipulates “neutrality in the Yemeni conflict” and expresses “its genuine support for Saudi Arabia” is “contradictory and unexpected from Islamabad.
“The Arabian Gulf is in a dangerous and fateful confrontation and its strategic security is at stake. Moments like these distinguish real allies from those of media statements.”
“Pakistan must have a clear stance for the sake of its strategic relations with the Gulf states. Positions that are contradictory in such fateful issues have a high cost,” Gargash added.
Saudi Arabia had requested troops, ships and aircraft support for the operation that aims to restore Yemeni president Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, who fled the country in the face of advances by the Al Houthis and their ally, former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
The Pakistani resolution came a day after Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif visited Islamabad for talks on Yemen.
Good job by PMLN govt…they played their cards smartly. On one end, PM went to saudi himself and then sent useless KH Asif as well to assure sauids “fikar na karo sarkar assie tuwaday naal hain” and kept on prolonging the issue and in the mean time brought this issue to parliament and now using this resolution as an excuse… "kaya karien sarkar, pressure bhot hai:…nawaz knows how to play this type of politics very well.
anway, this episode is not over yet…it has only started. you may see many twists in coming days…so i shd say, PMLN has done well so far…in coming weeks, we will see!
There you go, see the true of face of your ‘allies’. Actually, not allies, ‘Muslim* brothers*’.
Excellent decision by Pakistan parliament. Despite the fears of repercussions, the resolution is one of the proudest moments for Pakistan. It is incredibly refreshing and reassuring to see everyone on the same page and putting the national interests first. Things have indeed changed in Pakistan.
So much for spreading rumours that army has said yes or how the agencies will create a smokescreen and fool the masses on religious rhetoric to join yet another barbaric invasion designed to cause absolute destruction. Nope. Not again. In fact, never again. The country has suffered enough by fighting useless Saudi and American wars yet these countries are anything but your allies. Enough of being a client state for world’s two most evil powers.
Wish we could pass a similar saying resolution on Afghanistan. As with Arabs teaching Pakistan a lesson or being more scornful to Pakistanis. It does’t matter. They already consider us ‘lesser Muslims’ and you know what, if Iranians - despite all their weaknesses and globally isolated self- can still stand up to Arabs and hold their ground and tell them to eff off, maybe Pakistanis can also learn to the same.
waisay khan jee, one thing is not super clear…what do these arabs actually want? if they want us to fight in yemen, that is a stupid demand…saudi has close to 200K army, so many weapons, with a proper air force and based on what we heard, yemen is hardly defending itself and not in aggressive position by any means…so why do they want pak army to fight in yemen so badly?
now if they want us to get involved when medina/mecca will be in danger…no problem, on that end, we already said we will get involved. so no issue there.
now if they want a clear political message from us that saudi is right, UAE is right, and iran/yemen are wrong, well i think under pressure Nawaz govt can say that publicly…Nawaz is master of these kind of games. kehnay may kaya haraj hai but never let one single jawan of our army fight in yemen war. Period
I rather see Saudi and Gulf states expose their true colours and threaten Pakistan more. This might encourage Pakistanis to finally a launch a proper crackdown on Saudi funded hate factories and block all the foreign payment that pours into those places. One may very well assume that Pakistani authorities were reluctant to do a crack down on certain foreign funded organisation as it may upset Saudi Arabia, but their behaviour can very much wash away this hesitance. If Pakistan can forget about what other ‘brothers’ may say or think, and make a bold decision on expelling Afghan refugees, maybe they can also take a deep breath and go after the Saudi rats.
Saudis cannot win this war from air…they will have to eventually put troops on the ground & they want “Bakistanis” for that. For that they thought they could count on Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt (Turkey and Pakistan have refused while paying lip service). That leaves out Egyptians & if history is anything to go by…last time Egyptians were in Yemen they paid heavy price.
