what is major differences and similarities in terms of culture of pakistanis
and arabs? is it ultimate goal of pakistan to move more towards arab culture and language and away from southasian heritage or to establish
separate identity?
i think Pakistanis' ultimate goal is to move not towards any specific 'culture' but towards true Islamic teachings.
Arabs VS Pakistani
You guys really wanna be like us? Why might I ask?
Pakistan one country has NUKES :)
Arabs 22 countrys and NO NUKES
Arabs bad example of Islam
Arabs losing sight of everything that once was
......So I ask you, why?
You don't want to be like us, but you do want to follow in the words of Our Beloved Prophet (saw).
I strongly feel like we Pakistani should establish or own Identity.
I don't think Pakistani's want to be like Arabs at all. The culture of Pakistan is complex. Our culture is basically Indian culture. There are great cultural similarities between the two people, and much of our history is shared. Like it or not it is the truth. We might refer to Arabs as our brothers, and they are indeed our brothers in Islam. So the "move to Arab culture" is not true, but the stride to implement Islamic teachings in our culture. However I don't see this happening, unfortunately. Pakistani culture is deep rooted in tradition( i.e. punjabi's, sindhis, etc) Pakistan though much smaller is like India, in the sense it is composed of diverse people with different cultures. Punjabi will always be punjabis, sindhis will always be sindhis, etc, etc.
what is major differences and similarities in terms of culture of pakistanis <<<
First differences: Pakistan has no ONE culture per say, it has some 20 odd cultures – namely Punjabi, Sindhi, Pathan, etc. etc. All these cultures are fairly different from one another. There are some crossovers, but generally each is unique in it’s own way. The only common aspect is perhaps the same religion, which all cultures share. Other than that, they have very little in common. Since religion is a fairly strong influence on all these cultures, it has helped suppress some cultural norms that are in violation of religious obligations or necessity.
So if you are asking what is common between Arab and Pakistani Culture. Only religion.
Arabs also have many sub-cultures, e.g., the Bedouin culture and the Urban culture. Arabs are not all Muslims. Although Most Arabs are Muslims, but most Muslims are not Arabs. Only 13% of all Muslims are Arab.
Now to the second part of your question: >>>>>is it ultimate goal of pakistan to move more towards arab culture and language and away from southasian heritage or to establish
separate identity?<<<<<<
What makes you say that? Pretty much everything Pakistan does is a result of our Southasian heritage. India makes nukes, Pakistan follows, Indian movies become poppish, Pakistan follows (we copy everything you guys do, sometimes we improve upon the original design, other times not), so much so that Indian Bindi (dot on forehead) is not an uncommon sight on weddings in Pakistan (at least in Punjab). I have yet to see any Pakistani walking in Arab grab on the street. Sure there are some hints of some influence among the families that return from the Arabian Gulf, but that is to be expected. In every teenager’s room there’s a poster of Indian Movie stars, and I have never seen (unless someone else has) posters of Arab stars or singers.
An average Pakistani knows about half of sentence of Arabic (people might get an impression that by reading Quran, one becomes fluent in Arabic, which is not the case), whereas an average Pakistani will follow a Hindi movie without looking up words in the dictionary.
Pakistan has as much in common with Arabs as it has with Chinese.

I tend to agree with Faatma Habeebthe culture of Pakistan is what shows in various region and communities and the direction it is moving in is and hopefully would be Islam. A unique country with unique people(s) and heritage united by the light of Islam.
It's not only Pakistan that has been influenced by Arab culture, India also has a lot of traits still carried over, musical, food, fashion etc. Most countries take on some cultural influence on contact with others.
When Indian films promote wearing of jeans and crop tops, leather pants etc, does this prove that they are trying to move away from South Asian culture?
I dont think there's been any further Arab cultural influence in Pakistan beyond the Mughul period.
A lot of Pakistani families have moved to Arab lands for better futures, and you'll see an influence in those families. There are some families that try to dress and act like Arabs to be more "muslim", but that is a farce and its not common.
Pakistani "culture" is not "Indian" culture. The culture you've seen in Pakistan is regionally influenced. We have Balochi and Pathan influences, which you dont see a lot of in mainstream India. Likewise, you dont see much South Indian influence in Pakistan.
Modern Pakistani culture is influenced by India to a certain extent, but also western countries like the USA, and European countries.
And due to the Muslim religion, a lot of the culture (clothing, food, social customs) is different.
I dont think that Pakistani culture is shifting to Arab culture in any way. This is some misconception that the whole world has. They think that Pakistan is an arab country, and its not. It wont ever be, because most Pakistanis dont like Arab culture and its certainly not deemed a necessity to adopt to become a better muslim. Exceptions exist, of course.
Well, Fatima has summed up nicely and Mr NYAhmedi's reply is also felicitious.
I think its not the Arab culture which Pakistanis are trying to follow but well there is, to a considerable extent a sizable minority that follow and those who are inspired by the WAhabiism propagated by the Saudis. In Pakistan its penetration was the direct consequence of the Afghan Jihad during which massive aid flowed from the Gulf States that helped in the proliferation of deobandi and wahabi madaris.
However, I must say that albiet, there is a strong hold of this sect on the madrassas in Pakistan, there is also enough resistance to that. THe result being intrasectarian strife ( that is within the Sunni sects of Islam) as opposed to the traditional Shia Sunni differences.
My own view regarding this topic is that in a bid to follow the Saudis we would loose our identity. We are South Asian Muslims and we are no less Muslims than any other Muslim living in any part of the world. We cannot deny the fact that culture does effect the day to day life of the individual. Our practices are and have been effected by our culture but that has not changed our faith in the fundamentals of our religion. So, there is no need to worry about that.

Take it easy, if you want to improve the image of Arabs then help eliminate the stereotype that they are violent and non compromising.
