Five years back it was thought to be a revolution that would topple all autocratic monarchs. But within few months not only it was stopped but pushed wayy back.
What was it exactly? A mirage? A dream never coming true?
Your thoughts?

Re: Arab spring: What was it?
A disaster that gave rise to ISIL/ISIS. Sad. Arab spring left a perfect breeding ground for terrorists since there was no stability left in the region.
Re: Arab spring: What was it?
Like in pak we had pak spring. But it was brought under control and one of the usual suspect was made PM.
Same way Egypt went berserk but was brought under the control with usual kind or leader.
Stuff like that.
Re: Arab spring: What was it?
Arab youth... against dictatorship and royals....
Re: Arab spring: What was it?
But the theme was correct, right, I dont think we can argue that the struggle to dethrone people like Mubarak or Qadhafi who were sitting for 30-40 years was wrong. Its just that the the mess was so immense that a new born so called democracy was too feeble to get a grip over it.
And on the top of it the coffin was nailed by the outer supply of existing monarchs to make sure people only remember it as a scary dream.. quite successfully unfortunately! ![]()
Re: Arab spring: What was it?
On the similar note, what happened to Occupy Wall Street or PTI's dharna movement?
Governments have become so strong that public protests and civil movement makes no difference anymore. We don't live in 17th century.
Re: Arab spring: What was it?
Arab spring resulted in lot of instability and tens of thousands people killed especially by the butcher of Syria and now under the cover of russian air force he is massacring the remaining population.
The west which supposedly wanted democracy in middle East didnt like the govt chosen by the people of Egypt and now are backing the dictator there.
Re: Arab spring: What was it?
Sure, I agreed with their cause, actually the whole world did. This could have been something wonderful if the region didn’t have so many extremist groups flourishing already and if their youth had a clear idea of their next government. This was incredible when it was happening but turned into such a disaster afterwards.

Agreed.. Well, PTI's dharna was on a different theme and not that kinda protest either but anywayz, have you seen MR. Robot? It just aired this season and its pretty much on the same line how protests make people think its revolutionary and things will overnight change bla bla while on the other hand its either a part of deal or it later ends up with a deal
Re: Arab spring: What was it?
A complete waste of time. A disaster of epic proportions to say a few...
Re: Arab spring: What was it?
A stage drama played by outside forces, actors paid for it heavily though.
