Arab fascination?

Why does it seem like there are a lot of pakistanis that love to associate themselves with arabs as much as possible and not just that but also try to distance themselves from any indian relation whatsoever?

It seems to be popular amongst youth pakistanis in the west to identify with arabs and stuff when they are clearly not..

It’s kind of sad, because if you went and said that to an arab they would laugh in your face.

Why do they think they are related/descended from arabs in the first place, is it the religion?

What is the motive behind all of these claims?

It’s a shame.

Re: Arab fascination?

Its inferiority complex. religion from Arab, neither supports such ideas and nor discourages your affiliation with your country and roots, until it lead to negative attitudes like bias, etc

Re: Arab fascination?

"In South Asia, claiming Arab ancestry is considered prestigious, and many communities have origin myths with claim to an Arab ancestry."

is this true in south asia still?

Re: Arab fascination?

yes its very much intact. Partition of sub-continent in 1947 did provide a chance to people for claiming their ancestry to Arabs

:omg:

Arab fascination?

Re: Arab fascination?

what happened?

Re: Arab fascination?

this is similar to punda fascination of the people who were able to read and write much before anyboday else could :D

Re: Arab fascination?

There are people with lineage to the Arabs. Almost all the sufis of the subcontinent were arabs. In the areas forming the subcontinent a vast majority seems to have some sort of relationship with the invaders, as this area has seen so many invasions that very few in world can match.

Re: Arab fascination?

interesting :hmmm:

Re: Arab fascination?

Man, the real question is, who likes the arabs? Aside from the people claiming heritage.

Re: Arab fascination?

Because of the religion, which makes no sense. If anything, Indians (which includes modern Pakistanis) have a more interesting and varied history than Arabs. Like Ali said, Pakistan's location has placed it as a part of several empires, including those in Central Asia. The world didn't start in the 7th century. The Indus Valley Civilization existed thousands of years ago. There were cities in modern day Pakistan when the rest of the world were still hunter-gatherers. The Mauryan Empire rivaled Rome. Indians have plenty to be proud of.

If anyone's interested I suggest watching "The Story of India", it's a fascinating PBS documentary.

Re: Arab fascination?

Exactly. I’m also fed-up of this notion of considering our land as barren to produce any heroes before 711 AD :smack:

Re: Arab fascination?

And the whole world can probably trace their lineage back to great stone age kingdoms of Africa. What is so special about the arabs who were just barbaric nomads till the 7th century. After the 12/13th century, they fell back into more barbarism which continues to this day. I would not be in a rush to claim such ancestry, I am happy with my 5000 year legacy :)
BTW, if religion is the only reason, it showcases the extreme inferiority complex of the people who claim their arab ancestry real or imagined even after countless centuries in the subcontient. The Persians are proud of their past, the Indonesians are as well. What is wrong with these subcontinental born confused desis ?

Re: Arab fascination?

lols. subcontinental born confused desis :omg:

Re: Arab fascination?

Noticed this thread randomly. It is almost WHOLELY Punjabis and to an extend Mohajirs (much lesser extent) that say so. You will NEVER EVER see a Pakhtun claim this. Even most Pakhtuns claim that they are connected to the tribe of a Sahabi who was Pashtun himself and met the Prophet. Qais Abdul Rashid but rarely ever acknowledge or are proud of it.

Pakistani Punjabis are funny and confused people. On one hand they can sit and talk about food and classical music with their Hindu counterparts and will find a way to connect 'RAW' to the drone strikes in Pakhtunwa...rozana marta he America...aur boothi banakar rohta he India. My theory is that Pakistan is only so many years old and they have to justify their existence somehow against civilizations with names that have existed for thousands of years. Howso? Choose an identity that is antithetically anti-Hindu and closer to'Arabs/Persians'

Even linguistically they think something like this
Arabic/Persian
Urdu
regional languages

Why is that? Pakhto is a beuatiful language. Punjabi poets? When was the last time you heard of that or had one in one or your assemblies?

Please stop imitating others Pakistani Punjabis. eidted. The absolute worst, absolute worst are UK/Euro Pakistanis. Wear niqab and speak 'akhi ukhti'. I know Pakistanis who have lived in Saudi Arabia for 25 years and can't so much as own land ya arab larki se shaadi karna...but Arab larka shaadi Pakistani larki se kar sakta he...

That's a huge difference I would say between American and UK Pakistanis. American Pakistanis dont nearly have the numbers or great indigineous population awareness of their numbers. But there 'Muslim first" identity, and learning and supporting Urdu the arts at higher levels in education, in government, at local embassies, for national defense...South Asian being the richest minority in the US...they know how to place themselves and what is important in life (education, wealth, family, values)...not holding onto this notion of 'becoming' Arab (laughable since Arabs basically own grocery stores and liquor shops here) or one day moving back to a land that isn't yours.

Show some self respect my Middle Eastern and UK Pakistanis

Re: Arab fascination?

^ You have a point about Pakistani Punjabis trying to ape Arabs, and some British Pakistanis certainly seem struck in stone ages, but the way you articulate your thoughts is full of hyperbole and insulting. For a moment I thought I was reading a post on a forum like bharat-rakshak. :cb: And sorry I have never observed the slangs used *by *Pakistanis. A simple google search can reveal that it is derogatory term/racial slur used against Pakistanis by hate-filled trolls/netizens…

Re: Arab fascination?

So how does it feel to be a racist? What does the world look like as seen from your eyes?
