The Arab culture ministers have agreed to a Palestinian request to consider occupied Jerusalem as the capital of Arab culture in 2009, PA minister of culture Attalla Abul Sabh said.
The minister’s declaration came during a meeting for the Arab culture ministers held in Muscat, Oman. Abul Sabh, who chaired the Palestine delegation, said that Baghdad was supposed to be the capital of Arab culture in 2009 but the Iraqi minister apologized in view of the conditions of Iraq, which has been under American occupation since 2003.
Algeria is to be the Arab center of culture for 2007, Damascus in 2008 and Jerusalem in 2009, he said, adding that all Arab and Palestinian cities would contribute to celebrating Jerusalem as the capital of Arab culture and would exploit the occasion to publicize Arab rights in occupied Jerusalem.
The minister proposed publishing books on Jerusalem in Arabic, English, French and Spanish to be distributed on a large-scale especially at the meeting for the committee of international heritage.
Re: Arab conference: Jerusalem capital of Arab culture in 2009
Thanks for sharing. I didn't even know, Arab Conference designates a certain place to be the capital of culture etc.
This proposal seems to be a useful one.
