Nuclear technology purchased for more than $3 million
Pakistan officials say bribery allegation untrue
WASHINGTON, June 6 (Reuters) - The father of Pakistan’s nuclear bomb said North Korea’s government paid more than $3 million in bribes to top Pakistani military officials to obtain nuclear technology, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday.
Abdul Qadeer Khan has released a copy of a letter from a North Korean official dated 1998 which details the deal, the Post said.
The letter says that $3 million was paid to one Pakistani military official, while another was given a half-million dollars and some jewelry. It appears to be signed by North Korean Workers Party Secretary Jon Byong, the newspaper said.
In exchange, Khan was expected to give documents on a nuclear program to North Korea, said the Post, which said it was unable to independently verify the account.
Khan has admitted giving centrifuges and drawings that helped North Korea begin the work of making a uranium-based bomb. It already has nuclear weapons made with plutonium.
But Pakistan has accused Khan of acting alone in giving North Korea access to nuclear secrets.
The Post reported that some Western intelligence officials said they believed the letter was authentic, although Pakistani officials say it is a fake. (Reporting by Diane Bartz; Editing by Eric Beech)

But Musharraf at that time said that AQ Khan sold nuclear technology ;) he even had to bring AQ Khan on TV for the confession. Who knows whose letter he is talking of, in Oct 1998 Musharraf became COAS.

^^^ That was phony confession and we all knew it. Question is who is going to pay for this serious crime and who got millions in bribe not just from NK, but Iran and Libya, too?

Well it could be Musharraf who knows, he became COAS in October 1998.

One thing is for sure for most of the follies of our army the civilians are made the scapegoats...
1971 East Pakistan fall (Ayub/Yahya's mishandling) and the blame lied squarely on Bhutto, Kargil Fiasco by Musharraf and Nawaz Sharif was the culprit, and this nuclear thing was also not possible without the army's involvement and AQ Khan was made the scapegoat for that.
Re: AQK: N. Korea bribed Pakistan military officials to get nuclear know-how
Mush was a 'dubang; type general but counted weak about 'Links'before he was made COAS, so he could not achieve the share and this is rather older matter before 1998, Perhaps the source is telling about last transaction. I don't know much but I can tell about three who were made COAS due to their weak background. Ayoub , Zia and Mush. What they did to them who made them COAS.
Ayoub was accused for Liaqat's secret murder.
Zia killed Bhutto openly and Mush tried the same but N$ escape alive due to being one from Lahore.
Kiani and Yahya were powerful generals who ousted their military bosses.

Regardless of above, we need to ask why this is coming out now.
I bet that US has mountains of such material against ISI and key Generals in Pak. They are releasing stuff one by one and saying that if GHQ does not abandon Haqqani network and other assets - they will be exposed dramatically.

being a pet has price, way our army has conducted itself in last few decades.
