Overall: SLA leads 34-29 in 67 games between the two sides (1 tied, 3 N.R.) World Cups: 3-all in 6 games Form book (since Oct. 2006, ICC Champions Trophy): SLA leads 3-2
Sri Lanka beat New Zealand quite easily in their super-eight game strolling to a six-wicket win. However form book doesn’t count for anything in a World Cup Semi-Final. It’s a game where who produces the goods on the day will win as per the very nature of limited overs games. It’s about which team can handle pressure better.
Both teams would go into the match with high expectations. NZ have never been in a WC Final before having lost all of their three previous semifinals in 1979 (England), 1992 (Pakistan) and 1999 (Pakistan)
SLA have twice been in world cup semifinals in 1996 (beat India in semi-final and beat Australia by 7 wickets in the final) and 2003 (lost to Australia by 48 runs, D/L method)
Hope it’s a close encounter befitting a WC semi-final
Re: April 24, 1st Semi Final - New Zealand v Sri Lanka at Sabina Park, Jamaica
SL should be entering as favorites above Kiwis.
With that said, a player -2- player comparison is what tells exactly how close these teams are to win the game. The edge for SL is the Murali factor. Jayasuriya is also an SL trump card, but he is not really firing lately.
So odd would go to SL.

South Africa'a Rudi Koertzen and Australia's Simon Taufel, who has been voted the ICC Umpire of the Year for the last three years, will adjudicate in the first semi-final between New Zealand and Sri Lanka in Jamaica on Tuesday.
Jamaican Steve Bucknor and Aleem Dar, from Pakistan, will be officiating in the second semi-final between South Africa and Australia in St Lucia on Wednesday.

Semi-Finals never looked so boring before....no excitement....no pre match hype, neither any 'expert' opinion from members or at least some free flowing tips of Do's and Don't's.....
I wish Sri Lanka Wins today.
Whoever wins, world-cup winner is Australia as usual.
