Apr-Jun 03: Australia in West Indies

Sorry for the interruption but i had a system braekdown so had to start again which meant the IP/URL changes …

Oh man, i wanted to see Aussies win it all.

Good job WI. atlast Australins defeated.:k: Good job by Lara and Hinds. I haven’t seen Lara geting century in ages. C’mon Lara.

5th ODI - West Indies won by 39 runs

Aussies have been beaten, at last. It was Australia, who broken the winning-streak record of 11 matches of West Indies in the recent WC. And now, West Indies broken Aussies’ unbeaten record of 21 matches.

West Indies captain Brian Lara waves a stump as he walks off the field after the West Indies defeated Australia by 39 runs.

Lara was awesome; as West Indies dominated the whole match. It looked like the same old story when West Indies lost their 1st wicket for just 5 runs. But then Lara and Hinds, together built a 2nd wicket partnership of 178 runs.

Aussies never really got it going as three wickets fell quickly in the early session; and it was nearly impossible to win the match as the Required Run-rate pressure increased each over goes by…

It’s a good day for West Indies fans; and also for Lara.

Well then we shouldnt post anything from another website, just give the link and have people go to that website and read it.

Great performance by the Windies and brilliant parternship between Lara and Hinds. :k:

Finally the Aussies lost!

True, but this is a notciable link on cricinfo, you can't miss it when you visit that site, but little unknown articles can be posted.

PA is responsible for posting all NBA/Cricket scorecards. He seems to love this job. Keep it up.

Go WI. Kick that Aussie ass till it's red. :D Finally their streak is over.

Good points by Justin Langer. I wonder what Aussies gonna do when their professional batsman, opener and wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist, fast bowler McGrath, middle-order batsman Michael Bevean, and spinner Shane Warne retired from International Cricket? Whose gonna replace them?

NOTE: Langer wrote the article after the 5th ODI b/w West Indies and Australia.

Aussies will not relish change

Australia could find it difficult to retain their dominance in world cricket when the current squad retires, according to Test star Justin Langer.

The batsman told the BBC Sport website Australia will find it hard to replace the likes of Steve Waugh, Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist.

The majority of Australia’s squad is over 30 but because of their continuing phenomenal success, selectors have resisted making wholesale changes.

In the next two or three years though it is inevitable changes will occur and Australia will have to blood young players.

Langer said: **“Cricket is a cyclical thing and Australia are in a great phase at the moment. Of course we are worried when the greats have to retire. What we are trying to do at the moment is to set a standard, which is obviously always going to be hard to maintain. But that’s the ultimate ambition. To set a culture so that young guys coming in maintain the level of expectation.” **

World Cup champions Australia have set the world record for the most consecutive Test wins and recently went 21 games unbeaten in one-day internationals - another record.

Langer said: **“Obviously it’s not necessarily going to be all rosy like it is at the moment. But from the senior players’ point of view, it is not only important to win now but to develop and encourage the younger players that do come through. The important thing is in the culture which is so strong.” **

Langer, 32, wants to keep playing cricket at the top level until his body can no longer take it.

He said: **“I think older players can handle the pressure and concentration more than younger players. But it takes more of a toll on the body. As long as my body holds up and I am enjoying playing, I will carry on.” **

Langer was in great form in Australia’s 3-1 Test series win in the Caribbean, scoring 483 runs, including two centuries.

But he then flew home to Perth because he was not selected for the one-day internationals against the West Indies.

Langer has only played eight ODIs for Australia - the last time being in 1997.

He said: **“I am disappointed because I would love to be in the one-day side. It is hard to take and I never like leaving the team but I do respect there are a lot of good players in the Australian team. Adam Gilchrist opens the batting in the one-day side, which takes away a specialist batting position. I would cherish playing one-day cricket again and it might still happen. If it doesn’t I will concentrate on being as good a Test player as I can be.” **

I don't think the Aussies will have a problem ever for not having good replacements. Their cricketing acadamies and domestic circuit is so high class that they are producing talented cricketers.

Guys like Clarke, Hogg, Bichel are linedup as soon as current senior players retire.

**Brett Lee: led away from the nets with concussion **

Australia have come back to earth with a bump – quite literally, in Brett Lee’s case – since their 21-match winning streak came to an end in Trinidad on Sunday, but with two matches remaining on their Caribbean tour, Ricky Ponting is determined to go out on top in Grenada.

Australia’s minds have been on other matters in recent days. An investigation is underway after several players had the gear stolen at the airport en route to Grenada, and even the net sessions have failed to run smoothly – Lee ended up with concussion after being hit on the back of the neck by a stray ball from Jimmy Maher, although he is likely to be available for selection.

But when the action resumes on Friday, winning is all that matters for Australia, as Ponting was keen to reiterate. “The loss was a wake-up for us,” he said of West Indies’s 67-run victory at Port-of-Spain. “If you don’t play at your best then you can be beaten and that’s what happened. We’ve had a few days off before Friday’s game so we’ve had plenty of time to freshen up and make sure we’re a better team.”

For any other side, it would be hard to regain momentum at the end of such an run of invincibility, and Ponting admitted his disappointment. “It would have been nice to continue it a bit longer,” he said, “but I’m very proud of how we’ve done it and how we’ve gone about it.” But after wrapping up the seven-match series 4-0, they are effectively 1-0 down in a best-of-three encounter. That should be incentive enough to go for the jugular.

In addition to Lee, Australia will make late decisions on the fitness of Michael Bevan and Glenn McGrath, both of whom suffered groin strains on Sunday. Darren Lehmann, on the other hand, is expected to be back in contention, after recovering fully from a calf strain, although he will have some job displacing Michael Clarke from the starting line-up. Clarke, 22, has scored 169 runs for once out since getting his chance.

Grenada has hosted just five one-day internationals and a solitary Test since the new stadium was opened in 1999, and there is an air of expectation ahead of the two matches. All the schools are being given a day off and the locals will be hoping that Devon Smith becomes the first Grenadian to play a home international.

West Indies’s only injury worry is the offspinner Ryan Hurley, who damaged his shoulder taking a spectacular catch in Trinidad. But even if he can’t play, West Indies have a readymade replacement in Omari Banks.

zero_one, can you provide me with the link for today's match?
thanks

Australia won the toss and elected to bat.

91/1 after 15 overs.

The WI better get their act together soon or the juggernaut will resume its journey.

Australia from 90/0 to 105/3

and from 150-3 to 187-6

Australia after 50 overs 252 all out.

WI could make it 4/2 today if they bat sensibly.

one messed up over from Sarwan which cost 17 :smack: otherwise Australia could have folded under 250 but ver good performance nonetheless from WI, lets hope they bat well and make that score to make series 4-2 which will sound much more better than 5-1

West Indies has won the match in exciting cirsumtances with 3 wickets remaning and 8 balls remaning :dhimpak:

Wavell hinds playing innings of his life scored a mervellous unbetan century (125) and he sealed it for windies :k:I wonder why they didnt incclude him for the first two onedayers :smack:

This is the first time since June 2002 that Australia has lost two consecutive one day internationals. And guess who was the last team to do that :frowning: :jhanda:

Anyways congrats to West indies on a throughly professional performance, they restricted australia to 250 after a rollicking start by asussies and then Hinds and Sarwan won the match for them :k:

I hope they continue in this vein and beat aussies in last ODI as well

It was surprising to see Gilchsrist missing the last balls to let it go for four byes.
