Hadith were collected by scholars on a certain criteria … That criteria for the famous Sahih collection was isnaad … Isnaad merely means chain of transmission … If something was found to be well transmitted it was included without bias … It was a truly scientific process.
Now some of these transmissions were quotes, parts of other statements and broken conversations, where context was lost within the topical discussions. Such Hadith although authentic … Do not carry the weight of command or opinion … But merely that RasoolAllah (SAW) has said such and such … But what he meant by it is indeterminate.
This is why when a ruling is taken not only does the Hadith have to be well transmitted, but the context must be clear or at least supported by other Hadith to at least acquire context by proxy.
There are some that are weak, but their meanings and context are well supoported by other Hadith. Also, it is wrong to conclude that one scholar may have gotten it wrong … Those collections have been peer reviewed many fold …
